I really enjoy this easy offbeat music, and as I´m in trance since 1999, this kind of music always existed n trance.

Ok, today is like fullon formula, but I still like.

Maybe we lost some magic like XV Kilist, Shiva Chandra, Auricular, Walhalla, Bitmonx, Haldolium.... but it still repetitive as trance should be. Again, maybe not so psychedelic. But, at least for me, its inspiring.

I admit that I dont like so much goa style. I´m the "new generation" who likes solid kick/bass...           LOADING...

Wow. Thanks for responses. Now I do know why I dislike so much modern psy. It's the heavy bass & percussion taking over the trip!!

Usually for heavy sounds of bass/kick I go for techno & DnB. Psy was always more like danceable but not so in yo face!           Cuntus Maximus.

I don't like Neelix so much. But he just created this formula that really rocks dance floors and people do enjoy dancing to it.

But I confess I dig a lot this "Proggy Full-on" that's being released now. I agree with Naka that it sometimes lacks the melodies and Psychedelia that Haldolium, Atmos, Perfect Stranger and many others have but I think it's awesome in its own way. The music industry will always change and has its trends and some people will like and some won't.

Examples would be Symbolic, Vertical Mode, Zentura. And Iono for label. These guys are rocking!!

The only problem is when those artists and labels keep calling it "psy" cause they got no chance to get gigs and an audience outside the psyscene (lack of originality). Psy and goa is an overused term these days used by artists and labels who got very little to do with psy or goa. IMO:

Word!
Please do not mention all the golden old prog artists of the first wave around 98ish with Neelix in one sentence. Its comparing apples and oranges. Neelix is less psychedelic than the music my baby daughter listens to.

And there's E-clip, Zyce, Ritmo, Nerso, Phaxe, Sideform, Vertex, Phaxe and the list goes on and on.
I too dig this style, but I'm getting a little tired of it as there's hardly any other Progressive being released, apart from the Zenon-like music.

But I'm pretty much done with the hamburg sound, it was fun until a few years back, but now I won't even bother to patiently listen to every Bluetunes/Spintwist release.

Two tracks I really liked and which still work for me on a fridays night is:

Where does Elegy or Solar spectrum fit in this..er...spectrum of music, very progressive but not 'hamburg'

But to link it to the original post....maybe wouldn't be around if not for the popularity of music like neelix....

What's wrong to compare apples and oranges? They're both fruits and they taste different, don't they?

I think that was exactly what I said... Neelix music is repetitive and all the same. But some people may think that is a good think. I can reference your signature, as an example.

You know how sometimes you hear a folk cover of some rock or pop hit? Like you hear some girl with sleepy voice singing a slowed down Nirvana song with her acoustic guitar. And for the first minute you think: "Hm, an interesting take." But then the cover (however interesting it seemed to you a minute ago) feels even more boring than the original.

Neelix seems interesting for the first minute too. For those who were born after the fall of the Berlin Wall, it may seem interesting even longer than that. But for the old farts like myself, Neelix music is just Modern Talking or Bad Boys Blue plus modern production minus bad lyrics. It caught my attention for exactly a minute, like that whiny folk cover of Nirvana did.

At least we knew MT and BBB were a cheese fest. And the bands themselves did not pretend to be anything deep. Certainly, not psy.

There is nothing deep about Neelix except the ear bleeding kick n bass. Last night I listened to the early digital structures sound & was saddened by the state of modern prog.           Cuntus Maximus.

Sad bit is it's not just new artists' interpretation being bad. A lot of older artists who were the forerunners of the progressive scene are now peddling this clubby sound (especially in DJ sets).

You can't blame the working musician though. There are 1000x more venues and promoters in the world who will be more receptive to this stuff than earlier more 'outdoor' sound which never even made it to most clubs.

Besides the actual point of this thread, but linked as to how somethings are becoming "big" in the various dance music, genres.
A post from Alan Fitzpatrick about Beatport's charts.
