On the downtempo side have to recommend one extremely creative bass player: Curtis Humphrey. He produces under the name Kalpataru Tree and creates this deep dubby organic groove. Very high standard, should change some opinions on whether the guitar belongs on stage.

Tribal Flora from India does a pretty decent live act with some guitars and many other live instruments.
Watch out for their release on next isratrance compilation

It's good when it's done well; an important part of any live performance is some kind of musicianship, and the guitar is capable of a far wider range of textures and sounds than just the rock/metal 'chug', or screaming fret-wanking solos. We use guitar live on stage, but not so much in our studio versions - and without a rock/metal vibe or rockstar behaviour!

Guitar is a fuckin powerful intruments, like Colin said in the hand of a man who knows the story can become a fukin mental blaster
but
I personally dislike the guitars in full-on and generally in psytrance, almost all of liveacts seen on this summer got this fucking (guitarshop) rocky mood

As a guitarist in love with psytrance, I always mixed my guitar sounds with some of my tracks.
I think the guitar can deliver very diferent sounds and textures, and together with creative effects can give something good to a trance track.
You can find guitars spreaded all over my live-act:
yeah yeah it should be in the top 10 of the classic heavy metal!

sometimes i like it ! but here we go again ! i heard tracks were rock guitars were used and sounded brilliant !!! and don't understand some visions about producers who are negative about it !! I hear this times so many producers using the same tones en sounds all the time !! its about what you like and feel when you put guitars in !! and think sometimes out of the box !! i find you expant your ideas even more !!
