I was in Nova Incident festival (Belgium) last weekend and there was an artist performing a live act with guitar. I am sure this was mentioned and discussed many times in the past but i didnt find anything.
What is your opinion about guitars - and performing solos with the guitar...
i dont like it at all,it reminds me of a rock festival rather a psychedelic one...

off the top of my head... GNOTR, System 7, Peaking Goddess Collective, Sunmonx, Cosmosis all use guitars in their sets, and they're all excellent. Better than the average push play live act by far.

Personally am not a fan of distorted guitar riffs reminiscent of metal. More than in live shows find that sound being used by a lot of mainstage producers as the next idea after they get bored of acid lines. Much prefer watching those who actually know how to do it do it.

As far as solos go, am all for psychedelic rock, bebop, blues and older playing styles being brought into the psychill/trance spectrum. Has to be done properly of course.

it has been going for a long time, when it's well done is quite good in one or two acts, not every act in the party.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

Never liked guitars mixed with trance music. Only some acoustic parts like Electric Universe-Meteor for example but in general its a no from me also.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

Dark Soho managed to mix industrial & guitar into quite nice night psy, as did Tim Schuldt.

Most stuff is super basic & really damned cheesey, and therefore sucks. If somebody actually learnt to play and incorporated some quality technical riffs n' solo's it'd be awesome.           Cuntus Maximus.

I generally hate it, specially when they give it that rock/metal feel to it. like the last time I saw Cosmosis I was really enjoying his set until he took his guitar out and those damn rock riffs came in. my mind was wondering away into psy landscapes and then that outdated rock vibe came in to spoil it all

though some artists do it alright I think. For example in the Hallucinogen in dub live album the guitars blend well with the other psy synth sounds and you almost forget they are using guitars. like that its ok

Yeah...the rock/metal feel to it is IMHO awful...and sadly it's the most common!

I generally dont like guitars in psytrance...

could be done VERY well, a la GNOTR, peaking goddess, haltya even cosmosis at times, had the chance to hear sun project do it right before they went cheesy and dark soho as well - cant think of others that i've heard that it blended well, but then again i cant think of more than 5 tracks i like with guitars, as for electric universe - meteor itself is amazing, but the way he performs it live with guitar? seen/heard it at least three times and it wasnt done right even once! i guess unsheathing the guitar drags the rockstar wannbe behavior right out

as far as ambient/dub/chill go - guitar is awesome! ill get the (first) chance to listen to hallucinogen in dub next week cant wait!!! (thats without mentioning the fact that its a twisted label party or more like the first ever twistival )

My guitar opinion is this. It's worked in the past with some tracks (tech trance, sun project, dark soho), but once done it is very hard to reproduce, because a unique awesome experience can be intentionally reproduce. (which is why most full on is fake psytrance).
