I very much prefer to have chillout which is varied... I would prefer the ethnic/dub side though more...           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

I'm not really bothered what they play on the main system before the trance- more bothered about the chill out rig

Much as I like ethnic dub style - i think it is in danger of becoming as a narrow & generic a style as music on the main rig - and I personally much prefer a wide range of styles in the chill out area - where you should be able to play anything as long as its chilled and not have to confine yourself to one style!

Interesting thread.
Basically because I`m and obsessive and I should relax and be more open on my sets I think.....I mean everything sounds like.....basically the same line and sometimes that track that I really love and I want to play but I don`t play it in the end because It doesn`t feet with the session.....I don`t know           My fake plants died, because I did not pretend to water them.

That`s because you come from the dance floor. In chill out we don`t need to adjust the sessions,It`s about relaxing.
You don`t have to swet or suffer in the cabin
,try to relax

I like to hear groovy ambient... very psychadelic, but smooth, and with lots of ethnic sounds from all over the world mixed in....

groovy is important...
because its all about building towards the... you know....

dance dance dance dance dance

i like a lot the chill music, but if is possible, allways with rythm, too much atmosferic music is boring for me...

Enough dub, enough ethnic stuff... We've all heard Backroom Beats and LSD stuff a zillion times before. An entire set of this stuff? There'll be 20 sets of that stuff in any festival.

What Posford did in his chill DJ set in Samothraki 2002 was very simple - he started with a lot of tracks from Hallucinogen in Dub, and when he saw that people had enough of relaxing - he played Propellorheads - On Her Majesty's Secret Service, moved to some of the more danceable Shpongle stuff, and turned that set from yet another 'standard' chill set into a complete burst of positive energies, people flowing with the music like in no set prior to his (and my tent was really close to the chillout area, so I saw for myself).

Of course, I'd probably prefer to see a more electronic/techno oriented chill set (add a bit of funk to it baby!) - but chill DJs from the psytrance scene rarely see chillout as a freestyle form of music. Glitch-hop for the masses!           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

I guess that the LSD dubby stuff might be as boring to some people as those israeli basslines/tracks that in some parties one has to endure from start to finish. I think what Kaz outlines with his description of Posford's music was someone who knows what they are doing playing ambient music. This is what I look for, talented people, what they play is their choice, but as they know what they are doing you don't have to worry! Perhaps we are just suffering from too many DJ's meaning we have everything diluted.

Variety is the key.... too much of one thing can get boring ... luckily there are many different styles!

I think Kukan is talking about a 'warm-up' set, which
is a slightly different context ... for that I would
start very slow and gradually increase the tempo ....

(nowadays I pack my vinyl box in BPM order, which makes this very easy!!)

In a perfect world we'd start cloning Mixmaster Morris so that we could have him play 24 hrs a day at every festival.
