Another vote for '97 here... and I'm younger than kaz!

For me, the classic 604 sound never grows old...

See trip, that just shows that everything is subjective, iwas into goa 95-96, but then i turned away from it late 97-98, and when the minimal thing started in 99, i came back.

For you it was probably more the opposite.           Check out my album: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/gay-satanic-hippie-tiefenrausch

It would have to be 96-97.......that is before trance started spreading out hectically and going into different genres (granted there were some).

Some of the best tracks and albums were produced in that year, and that is the year that I started my party times!           :: Life can be as bitter as dragon tears

yes 96-97 was definitely the best years. That was also when i was introduced to psytrance. But otherwise id have to say 2003. Some really wicked stuff came out then , like Sensient - Blue Neevus. One of the best albums ever :]

What was the best year for psy-trance/goa? Was there a best year? I think 1996 was the best year.

Prana “Cyclone”
Transwave “Phototropic”
Etnica “Alien Protein”
Total Eclipse “Violent Relaxation”

I think all of those are classic albums that I still will be listening to in twenty years. My second favorite year was 2003.

Protoculture “Refractions”
Cosma “Nonstop”
Younger Brother “A Flock of Bleeps”
Penta “Pentafiles”
Star-X “Prepare to Fly”

Again, I think these albums have something special and I will be listening to these albums for many years to come. What does everyone else think and why?

I would have to agree with Surrender and add 97 too, but he forgot GMS - The Growly Family album too....Wow, 96,97 and 2003 were great years.

Great taste, but how can you and Surrender forget the great Xenomorph's albums in 97 and 2003. Also, what about Hux Flux in 97 and 2003......J/k, you can't name everybody right? Good stuff

This is a bit off topic, but what style are these albums? Or rather, are they full on? I really wanna know, cause I thought 2003 was a really bad year for psytrance.           Ut ameris, amabilis esto.

Sure the best years for this scene were 95 to 97 when you had very healthy parties and the sound was really trancy, I mean it was worthy paying the tickets just to stand in the middle of the dance floor, close your eyes and let your mind go with the sound waves. After that it started to become faster and the etheral effects of the music were replaced by ever faster noises, which unfortunately doesn't indulge your brain to relax - quite the opposite, it makes you feel anxious. So, I think nowadays we have this scene which uses the word "trance" as a very lucrative label, but it doesn't resemble trance anymore. So, as for me, in 96 I used to buy 5 CDs every month. Now I buy or download 1 CD every two months, and sometimes I listen to it just once (get really tired of most tracks at the first try) and forget it someplace till I have to put my bedroom up and finally trash it.

Peace & Love.

I do agree with you man, 2004 is going to be a hell of a year, for starters great unreleased tracks have been comming out. Albums and compilations are not the exception.

My vote for the best year would have to be 2003.

NO, they are not full on. Thank God. I think Protoculture incorporates the best characteristics of full on and leaves out the worst characteristics. I believe Star-X is on his way to that but he is just not there yet.           my cat is deathly afraid of aluminum foil
