In 1993 I was part of a project following the instructions in that book. I was programmer and co-writer... we got Scott Piering (the KLF's publicist and Voice of Mu) on board, blagged a 24-track studio to write in for a week, as well as 2 days in the Big Room at Real World Studios to mix. Things came a little unstuck when Real World wouldn't let us out of the studio with a master until they'd been paid (the whole plan rests on getting everything for free until the track's a hit, that way everyone involved is invested in making it work).

I think it makes sense, modern electronic music is so technically advanced that it would not make sense not to get inspired from it. How much it will suck is just up to the producer (fuck you max martin).

The end of the eighties was full of pop music with pointless electronica lines and harmonies which didn't add to the production.
There was a documentary about electronica on UK television a couple of years back which cited a few of the bandwagon groups, but I can't remember who they were.
