One way (in software) to upgrade ES2 into a much better sounding synth, replace the ES2 filter with Soundtoyz filter freak and the ES2 distortion with Decapitator.
Do that and you have a digital "brass balls" character, monster.

Peace out.

haha yes it probably sound great..even if i find the filters ok in es2.

from these test i did i noticed that i tend to not like dark sounding synths for psy punchy leads , their attack/transients are not as defined /cut as much as some bright sounding synths , and they can easily muddy a mix but after it s personal taste..

True that the ES2 filter are not bad at all.
Its all about using the right synths for each task. The Slim Phatty is a very punchy yet spits out huge amounts of bottom end, no matter what the patch. Not easy to make it sit into a mix, it needs its space for sure which takes some EQing which ultimately changes the sound. Depending on what you're going for, you need to use the right synth and give it the space it commands.

I must also say that I tried quite a few digital EQs for boosting the top end of analog synths, Waves, Softube, Sonnox, Fabfilter and have gotten the best results from the API 500A...if the scaling was not that crude it would be ideal...oh well.

what about the free sonEQ , the high boost can be really good ,dunno if it will be suited but worth a try

I've tried that, but I was not really happy with what it did to the definition of the affected frequency range.

just wondering what synth you like how easy it sit in the mix ,wihtout much work ,cut great in the mix...

i think this quality is overlooked but it s a important one to get clear punchy mix.

Omnisphere all the way...

there isnt another synth that sound so phat.. and either fit so good on a mix without inserting Eq or compression

i find omnisphere very hard to sit good in a mix, almost impossible sometimes, its very cold           VA - Spiritual Science out now!

i must agree.. i could never make it fit in my way of production.
its too sterile and lifeless for bread and butter sounds.
its fun on pads and cinematic shit but still spending sooo many GB just for pads id rather use alchemy and absynth witch are also great, versatile fast to work and load and have a very good sound that fits mixes properly.

for fitting synths out of the box... i stile prefer
albino 3 (i can only do the fm leads on this like i want them)
kairatune is fat, free and easy to mix.
and dmitri sches Diversion.. i love it its huge and really cinematic but cuts through a mix like a razorblade.          http://www.landmark-recordings.com/

Massive is bad for multilayered music in my expirience, it sounds nice, but for big massive sounds.

good alternative is reaktor ,sound as fat and sit easy in the mix ,cut better and sound better when after more raw sounds
