Ahoy - try out Bryce 5, Strata 3d & photoshop. Also Freehand is nice for creating
tight clean graphics.

Using 3ds Max 5, Photoshop CS, Bryce 5 and most importantly, my Wacom Graphire 3 tablet, can't live without it now.           DJ Dovla | Interchill Records, Flow Records

I'd say that Maya, Photoshop, Illustrator are that top notch programs but if your a beginner I'd go for Bryce even though they've stopped the development of the program.

you can find Bryce here if the site is up that is

http://www.corel.com/bryce

My list of programs:

Photoshop CS (for inteface design, DVD graphics, photo manipulation, text ect.ect.)

Illustrator CS (Illustration)

Indesign CS (Dtp and traditional graphic design)

Bryce (For 3D fun)

Flash MX 2004 (For animation, video and advanced actionscripting)

DVD Studio Pro for DVD production and delivery.
