Everything I ever downloaded was crap.

I have more than 200 cds.

I don't feel right downloading psytrance, haven't for years.           .

@basilisk
is that bought after listnin to 'illegal copy'

the point i m trying to make is that if it was not for the 'illegal p2p copies' this genre (including downbeat, chillout etc) wud not have made as much sales as it's making rite now

i know i wud have not even bought 10 cd's from my coll. coz i wud have neva discovered ne of it!!!           the problem with valuing art is, till u dont understand it, it's worthless but wen u do understand it, it's priceless!!

Yes, of course, many of those purchases were made after downloading an "illegal copy"... hell, I would not be into trance if it weren't for MP3s I've stated this many times over... it's a bit different now that I understand the music a lot more, mind you. There are some artists and labels I feel as if I can depend on... so the downloading actually functions as a way to discover new stuff I might like that I would not have otherwise purchased.

To play the devil's advocate in this situation, I don't know how common my approach is. I know many people for whom illegal downloads are a complete substitute for ever spending money on music. It could really go either way. Trying to sketch out the big picture is a task beyond any one of us... all I know is that I have friends in the business selling less than 100 copies of a CD and I can turn on some P2P service or another and find more people in the chat than there are on Isratrance some nights... the entire reason this debate comes up time and again has to do with the ambiguous nature of the issue... no one can ever know for sure. I can only speak for myself... and yes, in my case at least, having access to psytrance releases on P2P networks has led to me pumping thousands of dollars a year into the industry.

I listen to samples on saikosounds most of the time to decide if I want to buy something. Sometimes I download tracks and then decide afterwards I want the original. I prefer originals and I've got a collection of over 300 cd's (also non-psytrance, but about 80% of my collection is psy) Originals are the best! The sound quality is always more crisp when listening to originals, no matter how high a bitrate the mp3's are. Downloading is something I rarely do.           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."
