Don't know if I qualify as a bonafide 'doofer' as psy ambient/ chill is my genre of choice, but with respect to music I like outside the psy arena, well my tastes are quite broad and a little random. So here goes...in no particular order...
I love dancing to soul, funk and reggae, and more recently salsa and Cuban music (all arse and arms, you know???).
I listen to singer-songwriters such as Roy, Joni, Neil, several Bob's; hindu devotional bhajans, chants & a little indian classical thrown in for good measure; world-influenced artists such as Afrocelts, James Asher, Suns Of Arqa, Nitin Sawhney, Baka Beyond; non-psy electronica like Faithless, Curve, Massive Attack, Brian Eno among others; film music - esp. from the sci-fi genre so soundtracks by Vangelis, Herrmann, some Williams & early Goldsmith, Barrons FP album to name but a few; Pink Floyd & other golden greats such as Si&Garf, Doors, bit of Beatles and Led Zep; a few decent 80-90's guitar bands such as The Sundays, Ride, early Verve, the 'Roses...
I could go on but won't because the list is getting longer and feels endless - I've missed out so much - suffice to say I'll try anything once and aside from psy, I'm not much a genre's person - more certain albums or artists that get into my head. Nice thread though. Didn't realise how long and varied my list was until I started typing!

The only metal I listen to is called "metal core," its basicly just rythmic metal. very little is focused on melodies.
