i know many of you like Infected.. but i doubt they are the most famous 
dont let your personal tastes to affect the reality !
about GMS and Juno Reaktor - yeah those two are pretty famous, but Astral is more famous i guess
about Astrix.. hehe.. i dont think so.....
Shpongle and Tsuyochi Suzuki - yes yes yes!
X-Dream.. dunno, never thought they are THAT famous

Astral Projection and MWNN should be the most famous - since they had successful ventures outside the psytrance world and were prety fassionable at "outside" scenes for a while. MWNN was even signed in Perfecto Records (Paul Oakenfold's label). Astral Projection still appear in clubs all around the world (side by side with clubtrance and deep trance). Tsuyoshi Suzuki was voted #1 DJ in the world a few years back, so that makes him a strong contender.

It's not about big bands, it's not about how likable there are in the scene.
when worldwide, including people who listen to other genres than trance, IM and AP are the most known ones.
Even metal/pop/rock/whatsoever lovers know these two.

i think that one of the key features of the psy trance scene is that when people are "in" to it they are very in to it and know about all the bands etc, there are not so many (in my experience) floating voters who just dabble a bit. So, to answer the question "what is the most famous trance band" you need to look at those bands that were around when dance music was young such as astral and mwnn who have been heard by a lot of people outside the trance clique.. certainly very very few have heard of astrix in the "real" world  ...

In the real world Astral Projection are the most famous psy trance band ever,no question about it.
All the rest that mention names like Astrix,Psysex,Koxbox,Etnica and many many others are just posting ridiculus things.
Just go out to the world and ask the people.

yea, i agree, astral projection are pretty famous... but nowadays gms are very famous too, everyone knows who they are...
and as for djs, it would be goa gil for sure

Goa Gil hmmm is he producing music recently? He s definately influential
but we are talking about people currently producing music.
Also another thing people forget is that question is the most famoust in the world.
and the only band who is "very well" known outside the psy trance is astral projection.
I dont know if the question only refer to within the psy trance scene?

As far as Psytrance goes and has gone anyway.
Living in the States, where noone knows Psytrance at all, I can say that the Bands people hear of the most are -

Astral projection and Infected Mushroom.
Many who don't hear trance know these bands... Many people that dont listen to trance normally have some tracks from these too bands, even friends of mine who don't listen to this kind of music (trance) have some tracks and it suprised me...

well, as i can see there're two bands whose names most of the people said:
Infected Mushroom and Astral Projection
now lets agree that Astral is a bit more famous, just because Infected's tracks sounds a bit more psychedelic i guess.. and Astral got tons of dancing tracks

i'd agree with astral projection and infected mushroom but still this can also be quite a debateable question depending on couple of factors such as where one comes from...
So i live in macedonia and the most famous artist/band is sun project followed by astral projection and gms to some extent. with some generalisation, everybody here knows 380volts or dance of the withches, paranormal...as well as mahadeva...so this really depends on the place and the way parties are orginised.
however my vote goes for astral projection
