Earthcore is the biggest. Rainbow Serpant probably second and is probably the most well know and worth the journey. Then also Tribeadelic NYE.
February has Submerged (dub/chill fest) and Akasha Festival. There is a healthy number of events over the summer months here in Australia.

Depending on who you are talking to...(I don't want to get into a debate here)...but for more progressive/mainstream (using that term lightly) psy music, it is definitely Earthcore.

But for more underground, grass-roots type of psy, it's either Rainbow or Tribeadelic.

I prefer Tribeadelic myself, it is smaller, more cosy...excellent environment.

Whereas my mates go to Earthcore but have no passion for the music, they just like the scene. I think people at Tribeadelic are there more for the music, rather than the lifestyle.

And Rainbow Serpent is like a mixture of the two.           _______________________________-______________________________

Earthcore is such a huge diverse festival that I dont think you can say its progressive / mainstream psy.

prog. mainstream at Earthcore this year...
Maybe Juno Reactor, Hallucinogen, Protoculture, Freq, Eat Static, Astrix, Phil Hartnoll (the Orb DJ set), Sub 6, System 7

for me that's a farkin great mainstream line up that I'm gonna get passionate about

for the underground at Earthcore this year...
Shed (Apoxina Records), Slum aka Phi, Theoreme (3D Vision / Arcadia), Uni (Throb), Dark Soho, Mathew Jonson!!!, DJ Emok, Kemix, Ryo (Solstice), Batta...

For me this year's Earthcore is a legend in the making! Bring it on! Especially the Australian line-up!

that came over the sky like liquid night.

Ken - you make a good point, although what I was trying to state, is that Earthcore is like the Big Day Out of Trance music in Australia. And we all know what type of people that draws. But in that crowd, you have the die-hards, the passionate fans (like yourself). Which is a good thing...

However, the feeling of Earthcore is that it has to cater to all needs which is fine because that's what the crowd asks for.

I prefer the smaller festivals...I guess that's all I was trying to say.

Shimmer, I know exactly what you mean.

I throw small parties in Japan and I love these. Pics of my parties can be seen here - http://www.psy16.com/

I've come full circle on the big parties. Loving them and going to every one - avoiding them because of the bad elements - liking the occassional choice one again and enjoying it with my friends.

I can enjoy the occasional big party with my friends, other people dont bother me. Earthcore is the biggest party in Australia and seeing Juno Reactor (full 8 members) with a monster sound system just turns me on - even if there are thousands of other people there too.

Ken - I like your enthusiasm. I know exactly what you mean by wanting to see one act so much, that you are willing to withstand the other elements.

Checked out the pics on the site, the parties look very grass-roots styled gigs full of some awesome psy spirit! Very cool.           _______________________________-______________________________

Anyone who loves PsyTrance in Oz should head up north to Cairns. I spent a year in Oz and met loads of beautifull Ozzy's, my family as there now know as!!

So yeah, anyone in Oz, go to Cairns, the inbox cafe will be a good place to meet the people with bush duff info.

Its a must do. Give my love to all when you go.

^^^ here here!!! come visit us! we never can have enough bush doofers!

Earthcore = huuuuuge, lots of big acts, massive mixed crowd, crazyness with a touch of commercialism. Big crowds, big money, big big big...

Rainbow Serpent - a really huge "vibe" party, maybe more of a progressive focus than some of the other festivals. Personally my favourite festival in Aus, this one holds a special place in my heart. Wouldnt miss it for the world.

Tribeadelic - more cosy, intimate gathering for melbournes New Years. Always has top class lineup, although more of a full-on focus for sure... great way to finish the year and start a new one!

As for the other festivals, havent had a chance to attend but ive heard very cool things about what modmonkey are doing at the moment and i look forward to Akasha project!!!          Open Records, Australia
