i used to live in israel, in jerusalem to be more specific. it's a melting pot of cultures, truly fascinating and scary at the same time.
i did feel very safe, depending in which part of the city i was hanging around. sometimes i would forget about the conflicts going on, but then would get reminded again just by seeing the soldiers patrolling around in the city.
yea, i agree with general opinion here that tv and mass media just points out the horrible side of israel... it's a pity, the country has much more peaceful and beautiful aspects to offer than just war & politics

You shouldnt judge Israel by what you see in CNN or TV... I lived in Mexico for 21 years and now ive been in israel for 2 years in total and I can tell you that i feel much more secure here.. where i am free to walk at night without being scared of someone robbing me or pointing a gun at me and taking my belogings or even worst my life.. i dont have to be worried of crime or people trying to hurt me... terror attacks? yes they occur, but its not as you see it in TV its not going on everyday (or at least not in the main cities inside proper israel) .. the probability to be hit by a terror attack in israel is just the same as winning the lotery... Here I am safer then in many countries out there.. Israel is a great country to live in with amazing people and parties and good vibes.. unfortunatley like every place in the world there are bad things that we just have to deal with.. you should come visit and see it for yourself.. |

This is ignorance imo, not to care about problems is one thing, but closing your eyes to them is another...

Man, if TV is your only window to the world, I feel sorry for you.
IMHO, TV is just a brainwashing machine.
You can get the info from alot of sources, not just mass-media.

See, the TV is the most available info source for people; therefore people make their conclusions depending on that source and the opinions are made mostly because of this source...

TV is like the food in the army. You must eat todays menu if you like it or not because is good for you and everybody eat the same today.
Is nothing more than a propaganda tool.
Israelis like other nations is for the ppl out of Israel what the goverment of every country want be.
Most of us eat the 8 oclock news and say thanks.
Some of us look for the truth from other sources like Cyber Punk said.
Is more healthy pick up your news than eat the ready for you from others.
Finaly you have your opinion and you know why.
I agrre with Rephlex also. Nations without a war have more dead ppl from criminal actions and you afraid to go out from your home for this reason. Isn't this terrorism also?

I agree that TV is a "federal" tool of manipulation, but then again, cutting yourself from the source that people make their minds up to, is not exactly wise imo...
For Shiva's sakes I'm no telling you that it IS an only source and you should stick only to it, but it WILL help you understand opinions which are made according to it...
About the amount of people dying, well, they die more from car accidents than terror attacks...

Yep. Throw away Lucifer's funbox. It's amazing how your perception of reality changes once you do it. Internet and written media informs me much better and i have the time to think and to digest the information the way i want it and not the way the rating driven editors wanted on TV.

I am coming to Turkey via Israel for the eclipse party in March. I plan on spending a week there. travelling, hanging out, getting the vibe of the place. I have lived through bombs and 'terrorism' here in South Africa, there is always a lot more to a place than what you led to believe in the mass media.
I would like to get around as much as possible, any recommendations?
