Im mostly a producer but i figure that if i want to play live the easiest thing would be to Dj my tracks with turntables(or the traktor stuff)is that really the whole point of Dj'ing..to make one track flow into the next one nicely?or is there something much more?Thank You.           www.soundcloud.com/kabbalisticvillage

Someone once said that DJing is about creating moments using the full + varied musical spectrum at your disposal.

I agreed

I never really understand those scratch dj's.. you have a dancefloor running right? Now why the hell are you breaking up those beats so much nobody can dance to them anymore??? Or is it just art for the sake of creating phat sounds and not a dancefloor?

Turntablism isn't really "DJing". It's live music using a turntable as an instrument.

Yes this is very much on the mark. Many DJs who do this kind of "mixing" are showing their musical talent more than creating a journey, and this is there are many competitions globally for turntablists.

It can be used to a degree in actualy sets, the two Jungle Massive compilations mixed by DJ Hype shows this, as do many of the early Cold Cut & DJ Food mixed CDs.

I can understand how many within the psy scene only see it as being nothing great as it really isn't about creating a journey more as showing your skills.           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

It's about creating good moment choosing the right music, present new sounds and find the spot where your tastes matches with the crowd.

Its about creating journey of of sonic experimentation.

This certainly does not apply to all styles of music. There have been many events outside of the trance scene that I have been to just to watch and here the skills of the DJ, often not dancing at all.

I think that such an attitude is what often prevents a scene expanding beyond preset limitations of a few die-hards.

Our scene has been stagnant for years, festering away until many i know both young and old timers find it boring.           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

Sorry I was strickly speaking from a trance perspective as this is generally a trance site. I do appreciate turntablist as well as all other forms of transmission of edm. As for trance djs, I stand by my comment. You can still do tricks and all that fun stuff but if those tricks keep knocking everyone out of trance then IMO that's not a very effective trance dj...

(Slowly pulls head out of trance bubble;)

Prolly one of the best dj set Ive ever heard was The Crystal Method last year. I was really expecting to see some producers phone it in but boy was I suprised! Their energy was thru the roof and it transfer to the crowd 10 fold.. Also they were pulling off things with cdjs that I did not know possible.... My jaw was on the ground for 2hrs while my booty was a shaking!!!

Djing is about getting blowjobs under the console.
