What DAW is most popular among ambient/chill producers?

Seems to me like a lot of people on here prefer either Ableton, Cubase, or Logic(but of course, you can use Logic and Reason for anything).

I've used FLStudio9 for producing, the samples on it are all shit, so I've been using Nexus, Sylenth, and Zeta instead. Been using mostly Nexus sounds for my tracks.

I'd like to really try Ableton, I watched someone use it and the way the workflow works seems so much better then FLStudio, especially for the kind of music I want to produce(which is chillout/psy)

you are asking the wrong question IMO.

What if you find out that the most popular DAW among ambient/chill producers is one that you really hate?

A better question is what DAW excites me and makes me want to come back to it day in and day out.

I couldn't come back to FL studio day after day. I don't like how it looks, I don't like how it works - but I am sure a large portion of that is that I haven't spent much time at all with it.

I am completely biased here, but IMO ableton is the future of electronic music in terms of DAWs. It makes sense to me, it has unique and extremely powerful workflow tools, you can produce + perform in it, it has max4live plugins so its extremely expandable not to mention the ridiculous amount of content being created by the community right now in regards to tutorials and whatnot....idk I could go on and on and on about how awesome I think it is but its possible that someone else could do the same for logic or cubase.

So yeah, if it isn't blatantly apparent already I would definitely suggest ableton            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Yeah, I was already leaning towards Ableton anyway.

Just use the DAW you find most easy to work with.
I personally know cubase pretty well, so that works for me. But I can see the potential of Ableton. Especially if you want to do lots of little funny production tricks. Ableton seems to do those extremely well.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

I use FLstudio 10 for chillout production (you can listen to it on my soundcloud) and I'm very happy with it. Now thinking about using ableton 9 for making sets (rather than songs) because I think ableton is more fit for that purpose than flstudio. But for song creation, with the right tools (vsti), I never stumble upon things that restrict me.           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog

whatever daw works for you and inspires you. thats it.
you can try some and see which one you like to work better.
all daw have pros and cons (not on sound).
for example logic have great natural plugs like es1, es2, ultrabeat and sculpture.
ableton have brilliant workflow (for me) and makes you to tweak the whole system like hell hahaha (i love ableton).
Cubase have his own goods etc...

Personaly i work with ableton 4 years now and i will stay there

I use Fl studio for everything, even for mastering nowadays, and you can hear my soundcloud for examples...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

when i was regularly making ambient music i'd do everything in audiomulch and adobe audition, on the digital side. i don't think the DAW's as important as the person piloting it...           http://hermetechmastering.com : http://www.discogs.com/artist/Gregg+Janman : http://soundcloud.com/babaluma

maybe you'd just like us to write the whole track for you?

this focus on gear first and foremost is just crazy. use what you have and make ambient/chill music with it. like i said, it's way more about the operator than the tools...           http://hermetechmastering.com : http://www.discogs.com/artist/Gregg+Janman : http://soundcloud.com/babaluma
