House seems to have a fair following, but what about the lesser known EDM genres. I quite like DnB, all that broken bass is crazy. Check out tracks like Noisia - Stigma, Evol Intent - Era of Diversion and Black Sun Empire - Breach.

Techno has some great tracks from people like Richie Hawtin (Plastikman), Richard D. James (Aphex Twin), and Joey Beltran. Aphex Twin - Didgeridoo and Second Phase - Mentasm are mind blowing while Plastikman - Plasticine is as trippy as anything else I've heard.

Normal trance isn't as crazy as psy but it does have its moments, like Sasha - Xpander, Solar Quest - Acid Air Raid (this is mad!), Hardfloor - Acperience 1, Hybrid - Finished Symphony etc...

I also listen to some breakbeats, Prodigy/Chem Bros good stuff. And there is this amazing track Overseer - Supermoves Check it out. The trippy side of breaks is represented by Fatboy Slim - Acid 8000 and Josh Wink - Higher State of Consciousness (how high can a synth go? listen to this track)

So, what do you listen to?

Was lucky enough to catch Black Sun Empire doing a live set on a random night in Berlin... totally changed my perspective of how psychedelic DnB can actually be.

Techno is slumping at this point but then you throw on Trentemøller and all the rest goes out the window. There is some great minimal out there that actually plays with the psychedelic. Dusty Kid, Stephan Bodzin... worth checking out.

Normal trance ... not nowadays since the big ones are still doing the same thing they did in the 90s...did catch Sasha back in the day and havn't found any DJ in any genre yet whose been able to match up with that smooth ride. Xpander... Finished Symphony... really wished they still made tracks like those.

Dubstep is super hot in terms of production now. It's kind of the culmination of all the electronic genres that were not based on the 4x4. Then if you're looking out of the box there are people like Tipper, Mouse on Mars, Funki Porcini who've taken electronica and used it as a tool to create a sound that's completely their own.

I find the psytrance genre restricting in terms of its integrating other influences. There's always so much to listen to within psy there a person seldom gets the change to check out other sounds... but then if you're one who chases quality and creativity it doesn't take long to realise that psy is just about 33% of the possibilities.

We do a mashup of all electronca in Kolkata btw ... so if you're ever in town looking for the sound, buzz the PM Both Delhi and Bbay have people doing this too.

Yeah BSE's driving insane release is good stuff. Breach is such a stunning track, when I hear it those rhythms and melodies have me humming all day! Why doesn't India have a Drum & Bass scene =\

There is so much to listen to in any genre, but I think if you get hooked onto the psychedelic madness then you don't listen to anything else because nothing is as satisfying Thats how I ended up listening only to Goa Trance for 2 whole years.

I was listening to good 'ol Artificial Intelligence I & II, hopefully they'll be my gateway to IDM. I'm really looking forward to checking out Autechre and the like. DnB is leading me towards the Breakcore/Experimental/Noise side of things. I love the way EDM has this huge variety of crazy music on offer.

Not likely to come to Kolkata anytime I'm on the other end of the country, Pune, where the scene looks as dead as a dodo to me.

Dubstep is really kickin these days...

Also really worthy to check out is, some really innovative stuff happening in the breaks scene.
Check out acts like Far Too Loud and the new spanking Ep by Rex. Mixing new school breaks with some psychedelia... sounds really fresh and pumping as hell!! The new label by Far Too Loud called Broken Robot Recordings is pushing the boundaries with this new sound.

Also quite happy to see quite a few Indian acts now comin up with good interesting electronic stuff.... Th future does look interesting.
