As we are on the naming conventions of labels, I have seen lot of songs with name:
VA - and mycel?
What do they signify?

Viral Virus, im not sure if youre response was sarcastic..... just it case it were, i didnt mean to poke at you... what i meant to say is that (speaking from my own short lived experience and watching other proffes. work together) music making requires a certain positive flow, especially when its involving more then 1 person..... sure one can write some and the other can modify and add on more... or both can be inputting ideas and writing them "together".... but for sure no fighting of any sort... its about art
i hope this is a better respone.. you caught me with one eye open in the morning on the other one

but i have seen producers starting to fight mentaly because of misunderstoods and different meanings in the studio. one wants fullon, the other one wants progressive = bad vibrations
or one producer srews the knobs for 3 hours, is very proud of the result and the other one steps into the room and says "what crap is that? did you fall on the keyboard?" = bad vibrations

i always thought of them like this..
Vs- Is when one track is produced and another artist remixes the track adds in somethin else...anythin else...
&- is when 2 artists combine and start a track from scratch with their own ideas and their different formulae of music..
on-well it easily implies doesnt it
dunno if i am right! but thats how i percieve it and always will works for me

No, Praecox is right. I'm doing a VS track at the moment with Meltdown. I hate the guy. He's short, and Polish, and seems to get all the girls. I swear if I ever see him out of a studio, I'm going to beat the living crap out of him.

I guess most artist just write whatever comes to their mind (or the label does it).
I wish however, that it will mean something. I know some artist that actually mean something when they write it, i.e. "Vs." means the track was made with a kind of the conflict between them, "&" was made together in harmony, "feat." meas the second was more hosted then take full part in the production etc.

well. at lest with me, i ve made some VS with miditec and psytekk (coming out soon heh). we call it Vs because we both made the sounds for the track so is collaboration. nothing related to conflit at all.
if i woul make a track based on someone story( it could be voice, melody, synths, whatever) so in that case i would call it featuring because im suporting my story in someone else elements.
about the "on" i also think is coool like this. better than VS. no explanation at all.
and about the & i supose if u start a track with someone on your side making it to so i think it is 1 & other. but i would call it Vs. for me VS stands for collaboration rather than conflits or Tyson VS olifield
my half cent..

Skazi on Bajaj....
Bajaj = Manufacturers of scooters in Indian
Skazi made a track - Fire 'n' Ice in India.
The name Fire 'n' Ice is because he played a set at a club in Bombay city by the same name.
Therefore the entire combo came out like this:
Skazi on Bajaj - Fire 'n' Ice
Funny yet full of significance!

I notice the word "intro" a lot in some house music. I haven't seen it in psytrance yet, but it usually means when a well established artist introduces a producer that is entering the scene. |
