I'm not too sure, is there a technical diffrence between these three? does Astrix Vs Atomic Pulse mean something diffrent then Skazi on Balaj? or Skazi Vs Jorg? how about the ever popular "&"? does Xerox and Maskalin specify a specific equipment configuration? are these all indicators of how the track was made or are they all the same and just sound cool or better sometimes?

I think they are all the same thing, just a different name.

There all just different way of saying the same thing.
"Two or more people working on a track together"
there 'real' meanings are:
'On' - means to be under the influence of something. "Im on acid" "He's on xtc"
"Jorg's on mushrooms"
"&" means 'and' - as In "Mickey & Minne mouse" or "Chuck & Buck"
"vs." Means Versus, which means against or to compete . Like "Holyfield vs. Tyson" or "OA vs. Brock Landers"

I guess most artist just write whatever comes to their mind (or the label does it).
I wish however, that it will mean something. I know some artist that actually mean something when they write it, i.e. "Vs." means the track was made with a kind of the conflict between them, "&" was made together in harmony, "feat." meas the second was more hosted then take full part in the production etc.

And I remember chuckling about that, Mike. It does bring to mind some interesting imagery!

Hehe... I remember I was joking about that when I reviewed Lightbeams back when it was released...
From my review back in december '01:
"Yahel On Jörg? . Ehhw. Sounds like a dodgy gay-porn flick that I don't wanna see."
"Oh, one more thing: What's with the artist names collaboration trend? I'm mean - what will be next: Infected Space Jörg On Mushroom Meets Talamasca Vs. Cat Yahel Who Battles GMS Featuring Astral Nomad? Enough is enough!"

"Vs." means they don't like each other (they had to made a track together because something told them (eg. spiritual experience)
"&" means they are together, physically and mental (eg. they love each other)
..."Vs." and "&" it's a very big diffrence |

Really? Sorry, but that sounds like BS. It may be true for some artists (Bigwigs, perhaps?), but I don't believe there is any standard convention.
For example, I believe all of Talamasca's collaborations use "Vs." Do you mean to tell me he's in conflict with all his collaborators? (I suppose it's possible). Anyways, I figure Shahar's right: artists just put whatever comes to mind. |

I dunno if there really is any difference... but if there were in my opinion
V/S would be a track that two groups make and each makes certain sections of the track.
(and different variations on this) like maybe they both have access to all the sounds, but the compiling is done in sections.
'&' would be more of a complete collaboration where it would be harder to draw the line between who did what.
Featuring would be that the track is make mostly by one artist, and featuring one or a few elements by another artist... I've noticed that featuring is often used when the 'featuring' artist is not nec. only a trance artists... e.g vocals, instruments etc..
I think 'on' is close to '&' its just used when it makes it sound cool 'Cat on Mushroom'
but I dont really know... I'm just guessing.
