I am looking to find more good dub - good quality Jamaican dub and especially more psychedelic dub like Ott and Twilight Circus Dub Soundsystem, Dubwiser, etc. Would love to get some recommendations.

Thanks!

Hi Dimitry!!!

Check those labels:

Dubhead (london-based, famous for "A new breed of Dub" compilations)
Blood & Fire (excellent reprinting policy of classic Jamaican scores)

german labels:

Echobeach (re-releases and own staff)
Scape (Berlin-based: atmospheric, techy yet experimental sounds. Cult)
Basicchannel.com (Home of Rhythm & Sound (!!!) Chain Reaction, Wackies. Darkish and more conceptual staff)

Producers/Sound Systems: the mighty Aba Shanti-I or Jah Shaka (londoners dub gurus of roots & culture)

those are my favourites I raccomend you, not trancey-psychedelic but mostly 100% jamaican (and, in my opinion, psychedelic)

For more infos on labels and producers here is a nice link:

Selecta!!!!!

Well worth trying "Search" as this topic comes up every month or so - so lots of recomendations already buried away in the archives.

As already mentioned - for jamaican dub- Blood & Fire for reissues - also Pressure Sounds do a lot of good re-issues. Perhaps the only essential triple CD ever relased is Arkology - a 3CD set of Lee Scratch Perry's tunes one at the Black Ark studio.

The "missing" link btween jamaican dub and modern dub is the On-U label which was most active in the 80s - also look out for Mad Professor stuff.

Modern & psy dub - if you like Zions Train's Universal Egg label & Liquid Sound Design stuff, look out for Bubbled Up On Dub by Steffe & friends and the Dubmission comps.

Also maybe worth looking out for Bristol's Smith & Mighty/More Rockers who mix up dub, d&b and reggae.

And mixing it all up is "Select Cuts" which is a series of artists who've been let loose to remix the "Blood & Fire" back catalogue. Vol 3 has just come out and is very good indeed.

good luck!

hehe - you're right, of course. But I figured the word 'dub' comes up in every other post here... so it might be hard to sort through.

Thanks for recommendations! Some of the best music out there is well hidden and obscure - takes some effort to dig it out.

no one has mentioned the mighty Bill Laswell! He's a dub master and super-prolific... too numerous albums to list here

the BSI label is pretty good for modern dub too

Yeah, Bill Laswell is indeed great, his style is ranging between pure electro-ambient dub and more jazzy dub - a really chiller.

More?
Stress Assasain, a wicked Shanti ambient dub
Ooze, a chill project of either Ticon or Son Kite (I always forget who)

there are so many...           auspexx@compact-records.com
