25th of May 2007 - Twisted LIVE in Concert

Opening times will be 9pm to 6am

This being the 3rd in a series of Twisted parties, this will most likely be our last label party for a good while as we will have done three in quite quick succession and we don't want to start repeating ourselves. We don't do these parties just for the sake of it, we do them because we have something cool and new that we want to show you!

This party is for the Younger Brother Album Launch and also to preview new material from Ott and Hallucinogen in Dub. We are aiming to add a 'Celtic' twist to the Hallucinogen in DUB set.. stand by for more details.

The main problems with the other parties were due to overcrowding during the main acts. So the sensible solution is to get one enormous room and fill it with the best acts we can! With a main room capacity of around 3500 we shouldn't be having any problems. Brixton Academy has a huge main dance floor and also a very large seated gallery area so there is still the option to chill out for those who liked that idea!

We are going to do something special... an electro-accoustic bombshell of an occasion pushing back new boundaries in what you have come to expect from Twisted LIVE performances!

25th May 2007 – Sees the launch of the 'The Last Days of Gravity', a new album by electro-indie duo, Younger Brother (Simon Posford and Benji Vaughan). To celebrate this, independent electronic label, Twisted Records is hosting a party at the Carling Academy Brixton, featuring a diverse selection of the label’s acclaimed artists.
Headlining will be a live set from psychedelic funk masters, Hallucinogen in Dub with Ott and Simon Posford (Shpongle, Hallucinogen, Younger Brother) on guitars and effects, and with the legendary Youth (producer of The Verve, Embrace & Celtic Cross) on bass. With Twisted’s usual reputation for dance music events based around electronic performance, this is aspiring to be something different. This promises to be a truly unique and original performance strongly influenced by the likes of Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and The Grateful Dead.
“We’re delighted to be putting on this gig at the Carling Brixton Academy” said Simon Holtom Label Manager “Younger Brother always play a superb set and Hallucinogen in Dub look set to blow the crowd away with their incredible melody and original soundscaping which, combined with the live-engineered visual effects we have in store, should prove to be a serious spectacle! ”
Maestro of the sonic arts Ott will also be previewing material from his second album which has been eagerly awaited for 4 years now. Prometheus’s Benji Vaughan is set to satisfy the need for a stomp with his usual display of trickery that sets the crowds alight along with old school favorites Eat Static who have one of the most legendary live acts and need no introduction. Koxbox are also pushing new boundaries with their live sets using guitars over the top of their driving sounds and will be previewing new material also.
The main floor at Brixton academy will be fitted with a custom built sound system, engineered by the best, for maximum brain cell reconfiguration! The party will have an old school psychedelic flavour, with performances that can be shared by the collective party consciousness.
The backroom will be housing some alternative beats and breaks and a beautiful chill out area featuring the likes of Nick Doof and Celli Earthling’s new downtempo project Third Ear which is a wonderful blend of dub and electro sympathies. Not to mention the inimitable whizzkid Greg Hunter who will be previewing his new Spectralite material which he’s been composing with ex-Dragonfly label manager Darren Evans. Greg’s live sets are something to behold. He’s one of those people that can do things that no one else can do, its always a jaw-dropping experience that lulls you into another realm.
Also in the backroom will be the increasingly highly rated Phutureprimitve who has been a feature of the last two Twisted parties and has had such good reviews that he’s back by popular demand. Youth is also playing a DJ set, which needs no selling as you just have to look at this man’s release history to see that his taste in music is impeccable. Same goes for Simon Holtom who has been the driving force behind the Twisted Label for 10 years. Simon Baring is some new blood in the Twisted stable and has come along fast since his outset in 2006 with his unique blend of grooves. Tipped as one to watch for the future!
There will be unique custom-made decorative environment created within the whole of the venue. Twisted want to make each party better than the last and the party at Brixton academy promises to be a more comfortable, cosy and impressive place to party, somewhere you can get truly twisted!

It doesn't get any better than this. All my favourite psy artists are playing - I can't believe how good the lineup is !!

This is going to be one hell of a party - at an old venue that I have had so many great nights at over the years, since the old days of Mega Dog parties and the Ozrics Pongmasters Ball .

kick ass!            - The yeti loves to drink shnaps too, so he's like a real shaman... he, uhm, uh, if you want to contact him, you have to put some alcoholic offerings in front of the forest.

For me the absolute highlight of this event will be the Spectralite's performance, Greg Hunter is total genious and everybody must hear his music to know what psychedelic dub is all about, great to see he's playing often around the world, spreading the vibe.

I'd be curious to know where the rooms are going (apart from the main one of course) - who's got the joys of the foyer? and is the upstairs corridor or the VIP room being used for the other room?

I've always loved the main room at Brixton academy - but found it less than ideal for the the smaller areas/rooms - still - with a line up like that - it should still be a cracking party.

Well it *should be* to keep the scruffy riffraff out...

but sadly due to lack of rooms at the Academy its often used as the chillout room...

so VIPs have to find somewhere else to do expensive and exclusive (and - lets be honest - pretty boring) things..
