Here we have a very intersting V.A from Glowing Flame Records based in the U.K, founded by Macedonian producer and DJ Marko Daravelski (one part of Imaginary Sight). Afficionados of forest inspired sounds and "pure psytrance" should be familiar with Glowing Flame Records as they delivered some epic albums in the past including releases such as the Braincell albums (http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/gfr/gfr1cd012.html) and the Trold album Time of illusion (http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/gfr/gfr1cd008.html).

Imaginary Sight has also impressed on several compilations such as "Neverending Story 2 (Zaikedelic Records)" in combination with compatriot Leo from Atriohm (ImaginaryOhm). This time Marko has compiled 9 tracks for us including some contributions from Braincell and Imaginary Sight themselves.

The CD and Cover art already gives us an impression what direction is going to take, a futuristic, mechanical Temple temple surrounded by a dense forest flowering with bizarre plants, mushroom like organisms and a family of monkeys. Here the organic and inorganic, the past present and future are combined. A taste for the futuristic yet earthy ride that awaits us.

01. Imaginary Sight begins the journey with a determined track, there is no long introduction, no messing around. Macedonia has really shown how much Psy-talent this small country has to offer, in my eyes producer teams like Atriohm and Imaginary sight are on the very cutting edge of ATMOSPHERIC psytrance. This track is no different, flowing smoothly at 145 BPM and building beautifully. The clear kick and bass are soon aqccompanied by layer over layer of foresty sounds untill beautiful melodies emerge. There is a lot going on but the track never gets annoying or irritating for home listening, although surely primarily written for nighttime forest dancefloor madness its a very smooth ride that tells a great psychedelic story- there are no real breakdowns which is always nice for trance dance imo- long breakdowns cramp my trance, this is hypnotic and tribal all the way. One of the nicest Imaginary Sight tracks I have heard so far.

02. Less is more, also by Imaginary Sight, continues the trip at a slightly increased pace, dear passengers, we are now cruising at 148 BPM. I would discribe the first minute as a playful build up before Marko and Bob start using your mind as musical canvas again, splattering your brain with UV-Active fleuro splashes of colors in various shades. This track is also slightly more intense (In my case I find myself grinding my teeth involuntarily although I am not on Jawlock medicine of any kind, but that isnt a bad sign, the track is doing a good job). Another trademark of Imaginary Sight and Glowing Flame IMHO is a love for oldschoolish goa esque vibes and melodies, of course in a modernised, more twisted form.
Very good track but liked the Let Go your Ego a bit better personally.
Goa 2009 AD;)

03. As the third offering we get a track by an artist I have personally not heard much of untill now. The project is Ianuria, which is a DJ and producer called Josef Hofinger from Austria. I did not have any clear impression of what to expect, but can definetly say that Josef fits the Glowing Flame style. Ianuria has a strong knowledge of music theory having visited music school and having played on actual instruments as a drummer for many years. Liquid modulation showcases this impressively- it is a very dense, atmospheric, ever morphing forest track with a strong electrical charge up its ass which drives it along. Some sparingly used yet effective voice samples add additional spice to the sonic soup, and towards the end the track opens a whole new dimension with some extremly twisted and psychedlic leads. Pure Forest shroom atmospherics. I am impressed Mr. Josef, lets see if your next 2 tracks rock as much. I would almost be ready to call this "Epic".

04. Trold from Norway are one of the most talented forest Psy producers these days IMHO.thought their album Time of Illusion was a great achievement for psychedelic music, a timeless piece full of mystery and epic Norwegian tales of forests, fjords and mountains. So the big question remains, can the Norwegian Shroomamaniacs deliver a track to meet the high expectations? In my eyes and ears the answer is a clear yes! "Fol" would have slotted very comfortably into Time of Illusion. Every Trold track I have heard so far is overflowing with ideas(in a good way) and creativity...most artists would make 4 or 5 tracks out of the material these guys use in one track. Once again a monumental journey which does with ease what the majority of releases fail to do: Create suprises and an atmosphere that is more dense then lead and more vivid then a sunflower field on acid. Pure genius. Pity we only get one Trold track timewise one more would have fit onto the cd

05. Next is Ianuria with his second contribution, "elements", the track builds some atmosphere with simple yet intereting pads before the bassline leads us deeper. After around 1:30 the track begins to unfold and we are off into the deep deep forest again and again I cant help being impressed with the ease Josef keeps morphing and building the track, as layers and layers of effects and twisted melodies swoosh around your head without falling into a chaotic mess, clarity in chaos and direction are ever present. Never becomes boring. Now I want to here more Ianuria, hopefully an album on Glowing Flame because fits the labels style spot on....

06....... especially because he is able to create the same Goa melodies and vibes and package them in an innovative and new way, just as label colleagues Braincell and Imaginary Sight. Connecting the past and future, the old and tested with inspirational influences and new directions.Just as the album cover envisions. Psytrance as pure psytrance, no need to even begin discussions as to what direction this takes and where it goes. Music created with psychedlic intent, pure psychedlia, no need for other discriptions, no cheese involved. (IMO) Track showcases a strong goa influence in my ears.

07. Now Braincell has long been one of my favourite true psytrance producers, and I am sure many of you have grown to appreciate this guy as well. Braincell is Ralph, who you may also know as one part of the Rastaliens. Ralph is born in Germany and now produces in Switzerland. Braincell brings a different aspect, a different angel to this album. IMHO his style is a bit less forest/shroomy vibe influenced then the other producers on the album. It is more driving and high-energy, more bursting with science fiction power (if that makes sense...).
Whereas I like Rastaliens I prefer Ralph as Braincell.....even further away from formulaic full on, not as many shitty breakdowns (yes I hate stupid breakdowns, this is trance go play breakdowns for pimply teenage extasy kids heh). Braincell is what full on would sound like in a world devoid of cheese and (musical) emotional mongering.
I loved all Braincell stuff till now and this is no different, very strong track and representative of Braincells style as a whole. Great, album takes slightly different turn here, connecting theme remains the great atmospheres and goa vibe, always futuristic without becoming whiny or too nostalgic.

08. Another aspect of Braincells style I have learned to appreciate is the funkyness imbededed in many of his tracks, and it is this highly danceable funkyness which reers its bopping head here several times. We also get some breakdowns and quieter phases here, and although I was complaining about them before, in this case they do not get out of hand and fit well as these parts are atmospherically substantial.
Again respresentative of Braincells style, driving, hi tech and funky as opposed to the very grounded, earthy style of previous artists on this album.

09. Finally we get an Imaginary Sight Remix to a Braincell track. IMO this is one of the weaker tracks on this album, I would have liked to hear more Imaginary Sight influence on the remix, could have taken a more twisted direction IMO, sounds much more Braincell than Imaginary Sight to me, maybe a bit more risk taking would have paid of in this remix. By no means a bad track, once again we get Goa Vibe all the way.

Overall a wonderful release, contemporary Psychedelic music with a love for Goa melodies and Vibes that shine through in every single track and that seems to be the connecting point between the artists, they all have a passion for this in one way or another. Goa and forest influeced Psytrance with dense atmospheres and enough ideas to fill 2-3 albums imo. Anyone who has liked Glowing Flame releases or releases of the artists involved should definetly go check it out. From the earthy, shroomy sound of Trold and to the high energy, lofty, driving Braincell contributions, from the positive suprise of Ianuria to the atmospheric mastery of Imaginary Sight, Glowing Flame delivers a great package. Goa 2009 AD;).

Great VA release...
Im very impressed with the Ianuaria´tracks...all so well crafted, nice melodies, inteligent and deep. Great use of small details to make a big impression or change in the track. Also enjoyed the production quality and the sound he´s going for.

One thing i really like about the album is that it manages to maintain a certain flow the entire album almost like a a good DJ set:)

Thumbs really up to Imaginary Sight, Ianuaria, Trold and Braincell...and to Glowing Flame!!!!
