VA - Re-Start -=- Utopia Records

Let's try again, if you heard this album you're welcome to post your opinion about this release, but please do not post offtopic stuff here.

This release was compiled by Ananda Shake, an artist that already release its debut album on Utopia Records, this is the first album they compiled.

The objective here is seems to be to put together on a compilation melodic tracks that works on dance floors. Surely this objective is achieved.

If you're looking for something really innovative or different, if you can't accept less psychedelic elements than Simon Postford or old Infected stuff, if you're only on proggy or dark or more minimal or groovy stuff I afraid that this compilation won't suit you. However this is no reason to start bashing it.

This music is made to bring smiles at people's faces at intense, melodic full on sets. People here at Brazil like it very much... Right now Bizzare Contact and Phanatic are starting different tours thru Brazil... They are receiving a very warm welcome here, a lot of gigs and parties, the same way that happened with Stas (Vibe Tribe) here last month...

All tracks have a quality production as far as I can detect, I already heard some of them at parties and people enjoyed them.

Album cover: The album cover shows something I can't understand, didn't like it.
See it here: http://212.227.206.198/cgi-bin/zoom.cgi?utp1cd011_b.jpg:CDs/utp/utp1cd011.html:;

Track list:

1 - Bizarre Contact - Freedom
2 - Phanatic - Restart
3 - Passenger - Tranceforum
4 - Vibe Tribe - Liberation
5 - Freaked Frequency - Our Way To Paradise
6 - Ananda Shake - Fashion TV
7 - Elec3 - Stigma
8 - Deedrah - Self Oscillation (Ananda Shake rmx)
9 - Alternative Control - Have Mercy

Track by track:

1 - Bizarre Contact - Freedom --> Bizzare Contact is now only Diddy. This track features 145 bpm, different melodies, bass lines and samples... I enjoy very much these samples... I think they match nicely the melodies and track structure and help giving a direction to the track, it a voice of a woman that says something like: "...of my body... my brain... unreal, as if in a dream...". And in the end another sample: "I don't understand what's going on here!" just before the intense melodies... for me it's just perfect.

2 - Phanatic - Restart --> Phanatic was the other half of Bizzare Contact, now he is on his solo project and soon will release his first album at Utopia Records. This track is good, IMO another 145 bpm highlight of this release, nice melodies and a pumping bass line, does the work on the dance floor.

3 - Passenger - Tranceforum --> I was waiting for another Passenger track for a long time... This track is nice, pumping at 143 bpm, but I think it relly too much on that twisted synth... I think a remix has the potential to be much better. The sample is good: "We are the ones who must transform the dream..." Nice smooth melodic elements on background.

4 - Vibe Tribe - Liberation --> This is another highlight of this compilation... starts with an amazing sample:

"Young people, like, living insecure lives, felt spiritual damage was like,
but then, this loss come to symbolize psychedelic liberation..."

This track is REALLY melodic and intense: 146 bpm... It works perfectly on the dance floor as I saw with my own eyes during the Vibe Tribe's Live at Brasília (Brazil's capital and my hometown). It develops nicely into so many melodies that really blew away the crowd. The sample from an LSD documentary:

"I believe that with the advent of Acid we discovered a new way to think, and it had to do with piecing together new thoughts in your mind... That were using new images together in a way that jarred the mind and produced images that were latent in our consciousness.

Comes at the right time and the crazy break after it sets the floor on fire! Congratulations!

5 - Freaked Frequency - Our Way To Paradise --> This track is less melodic than the others before, but the has another crazy break an pumps fiercely after it... Fits this compilation, good production, but not my cup of tea.

6 - Ananda Shake - Fashion TV --> Tipical Ananda Shake track, right from the start I can imagine how the melodies will evolve... Of course I was wrong, they evolve in a completely different way, but it just as nice. The bass is trippy and is always matching the melodies, I liked very much this idea. What I didn't liked here is the way the track develops, in the end it gets less melodic: it's different, but IMO this cuts the flow...

7 - Elec3 - Stigma --> You know the Elec3 guys are some of the busier guys at this moment, ready to release a debut album on Turbo Trance Records and another on the Very Progressive Records. Surely this is track with less melodies on this release, it even has a pinch of darkness on its bass lines. It's a powerful track, surely that one point out of the curve here...

8 - Deedrah - Self Oscillation (Ananda Shake rmx) --> Starting with "Hallucinations" samples, this is a remix to a classic, but IMO the original is much better. The Ananda guys tried to do something different than their usual here, 142 bpm, I respect very much that, the track is still nice, but the original IMO is better.

9 - Alternative Control - Have Mercy --> This is one of the slowest 145 bpm I ever heard! Well build stuff, good production, but not my cup of tea... However the sample: "Would you take it slow, take it easy..." really surprised me... Made me remember a track I like very much...

Favorites: 1(!), 2, 4(!).

Verdict: 7/10. This album brings no big innovation, and also features only 9 tracks, less than 67 minutes of music. However, if you like melodic full on, this can be a nice addition to your collection. For example, I think this album is better than the other Utopia Records' compilation by Sixsense, the VA - Pure Imagination 2 (I can only play the Vibe Tribe - Thriller for that compilation). I have 80% of Utopia's releases and if you like their style I think this album won't disappoint you.

cd is great as most utopia releases. thanks to all label family.
and especially to lior ananda shake, who wrote that comment in another re-start review-topic - very funny indeed. i also think that it is not realy neccerssary to write review of cd that you dont like and have no what to say.
... 2 bizzare contact & phanatic: sad that you have splited up, but it is nice to have 2 top projects instead of 1. hope you both will keep your best style and add more amazing moves and sounds in the future.
... 2 vibe tribe: when i have heard albert balbert first time i was impressed very much. and when album was finally out it was bomb and totaly tremendous. then i was at full moon and listened to your set... one of the most impressing ones that i've heard in my whole life. and im very glad to see that in every next compilation that includes your tracks you do it again and again on very top level and in unique style.
... 2 ananda shake: your project is one of the best and surely have special sound and originality. your album still is one of the most replayable at my home and i always looking for your tracks in new worldwide releases. keep it going it is wanted.
... 2 alternative control: your set at full moon was very good. you have bunch of released tracks and it seems like you do not want to stop, eh? so tell me please when i can get the album?

other artists from compilation who i cant thank separetely like above i want to thank anyway too. all of you make kind of music that im in and you do it excelent. please do not pay much attention to horde of voices who tell that it is not psychedelic enough. they dont understand that music itself is natural and best bringer of high-emotions and without using of music harmony they can get only 'mind distorting' effect instead of true mind and feelings expanding expirience. thanx again and good luck.           Spiritual guides are to practice and serve in ways that cultivate awareness, empathy, and wisdom.
