Hi All !

Doof records open the new year with a new massive compilation which compiled by two talented guys : AMS & Cobra. The compilation called Play Way and it included 9 powerfull tracks by the Doof familia :

1. Electrypnose - Mario Bross
The track start with some funky and strange effects which creates a nice combination with the pumping kick few seconds later. It is an easy and safe building for another crazy trip of the Doofers. I guess Vins is like a computer games because he keep with the Mario sounds all over the track.

2. Ultratech - In the Hall of the Mountain King
After one minute and ten seconds of mystreious, Evgeniy is start his story. The line is clear, complicated as possible, but still the power-meter is not on maximum power. Here you can find some cheezy playings and relaxing baseline (if you compare it to Doofs regular line).

3. Entropy - Technology
Entropy guys (Omer & Pitt) are taking the dark direction and now there is no place for happiness or any positive elements. You will not find here too much brakes, the main issue is the running baseline with a smooth kick and darkish atmosphere which flow all over the track. This one is defently not recommended for the early hours of the day so be prepare for sirius-night diging.

4. Terranoise - Maybe You Are
Maxim Galinov is the man behind the Terranoise project and yes, you guess right - no mercy here also. This one has a great potential to bomb the dance floor with the un-clear baseline and all those deep turning. A great psychedelic techno track.

5. Iron Madness Vs SD6 – Blues Mystery
On most of the compilations track number five is the hit of the cd and that’s what happen here too (IMO). Ziv and Yakir, two guys from Israel, produced a very powerfull tune which has the intensity to rock any dance floor. The lovely kick with fast baseline and a lot of suprises like the unexplained male singing on 04:50 which creates an unique atmosphere of madness and chaos.
Way to go Ziv and Yakir.

6. Energy Loop Vs A.P.E – Hypnotic Spider
The track starts with a nice singing of little girl and than the scary kick gives accompaniment to these vocal. Vili and Eran are created here a complicated tune based on the Doof's basic line which means - full power without mercy...the track is always running and almost no brakes, and that’s what make you dig like a crazy.

7. Tsabeat Vs Optical Human - CDx4
Elad & Eran were try to produce something different and they did it good, actually. Here you can find more groove, less madness and a proffesional building. Although, I think this one will not make people going crazy but still it’s a special one.

8. DMT & Kreven - I Am Old, Child
Three guys were set together for create an excellent tune. Alex & Roma (DMT) and Ruslan (Kreven), did here something more deep and intersting - high bpm and many special elements which building a powerfull track, especially the last brake on 04:20...vocals, nice melodi and very pumping baseline which enter later.

9. Static Nation - Mechanic Dream
Fat kick, slow baseline and some good melodies, this the story behind this track. I don't see my self dig deep from this track but the brain defently work here for figure out the meaning of this one.

There's only one word for this release IMO: Boring. That sums it up quite nicely. The same dark, full-on squeaky kind of music. Synth-farts, a nervous pumping bassline, some random sampling, and there's a new cd. What's missing here is the feeling. Even though this dark stuff is not entirely my thing, there are some good darker cd's out there, make no mistake. This isn't one of them. Especially Entropy surprised me in a bad way by using that old sample: 'pulsing and tingling sensations' again. Fuck!!! I mean, how many times have we heard that already?? There are 1000's of samples that could've been used, but noooo they use this tired old cliche sample. Lazy lame-ass punks. Anyway, boring. That's how I'd label this. Shame, because Doof had some wicked stuff in the past.           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

First of all, thanks "guy cohen" for the detailed description compilation, we hope that psychedelic it is pleasant to the present judges, but nothing happens ideal, in any case the listener can receive before listening any picture about this disk.
Now, as thanks for IMHO 2: "Acidhive", any criticism always should be perceived normally, we shall not speak that all and everywhere it is ideal, at all different tastes, but we hope that each admirer night psychedelic will find for itself that that interesting on it compilation. In any case of thanks for criticism, it is always useful, as to musicians and dj's, we collected that that is pleasant to us, and musicians wrote that on what they were subjected by a muse. IMHO

I think artists should be excluded from commenting on their own releases. As your sarcasm in your post points out, you clearly have underlying issues with my criticism. I say it like I think it, that's something a lot of people could learn from. And if you can only handle the good stuff you shouldn't have gone into the music business at all, because you should know: you can't please everyone. Oh, and as for the 'muse', please don't start me on that one. The muse the guys of Entropy were on with the sample they choose was (to me at least) the 'Let's use another sample that's been used by a lot of artists because it is just cool for psytrance and it's about drugs too' muse.          "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

I totally disagree with acidhive, yes its all about personel choices but i think this is a good compilation, electrypnose as usual doesnt dissapoint, and the sd6 and iron madness and terranoise all rock for me, doof has had some killers in the past and this one is'nt too far behind.

Compilation: Play Way

Label: Doof Records

Year: 2005

Format: CD

CAT: DOOFCD20

01. Electrypnose - Mario Bross [145 BPM's]
02. Ultratech - In the Hall of the Mountain [146]
03. Entropy - Technology [148]
04. Terranoise - Maybe You Are [148]
05. Iron Madness Vs. SD6 - Blues Mystery [147]
06. Energy Loop Vs. A.P.E - Hypnotic Spider [147]
07. Tsabeat Vs. Optical Human - CDx4 [144]
08. DMT Vs. Kreven - I Am Old [145]
09. Static Nation - Mechanic Dream [145]

01. Electrypnose - Mario Bross *

The Biggest Swiss import these days besides Lindt chocolates might be Vince La Barde with his hectic trance-o-rama of IntellitTrance (Minimum requirements: two ears and half brain). This time around we reminisce about the days when running around eating mushrooms was rewarded rather than frowned upon. Thankfully the tune has only brushes of the original gig, it is more along the lines of retro-filtered presets imitating the polyphonic tune here and there, without going into full on Mario Bross version. Inside we find all the tall tale signs of Le Barde with the screechy synth's, diverse invertebrate rhythms and a doze funk. I'm still trying to recover from ‘Cypher' last year on Mind Games, but this is not half bad.

02. Ultratech - In the Hall of the Mountain

I seem to have no recollection of this artist in the past. The cat is new and fits the Doof sound like ring in finger. There's a quote by the beginning from the movie No Escape pervading in the background with mild success. Musically speaking there's not much but standard issue rippling notes, included the ‘homage' to Swedish composer Edvard Grieg by the end. The beat tries to remain varied and it passes the test. Nice stereo panning with effects, can be mildly entertaining without raising my hairs overall.

03. Entropy - Technology *

Omer2 and Pitt are back with an upgrade. After hearing their work in previous compilations last year, I find “Technology” a lot more eventful. Something taken out of a Goa Gil set with mind bending touches and bit more harmony, infused with twisted effects. The usual hard-hitting beats are there for a winning combo.

04. Terranoise - Maybe You Are [148] *

Maxim Galinov returns for a second time after a successful debut last year. The force “Maybe you are” carries can be compared roughly to a Mac truck, loaded to the last corner. Even if it looses a bit of the potential afterwards, it is still relentless power trance with a great intro lightly spread at the top, much like a can of whip cream.

05. Iron Madness Vs. SD6 - Blues Mystery

We are treated to a lengthy sample of some Resident Evil flick extending for almost a minute. From the last encounter with these two on Dirty South my impression of their work was rather bleak and slightly uninspired. The “Blues Mystery” is however, a step in the right direction. The basic structure is a peaker -once again- until kingdom come. The bluesy-type of break conjures a satisfying last stretch with clear potential on the floor. The notes seem to fit in there even if a little more tweak would have brought something more memorable in the end.

06. Energy Loop Vs. A.P.E - Hypnotic Spider*

After taking off with some sort of spooky lullaby in high pitchers, we start getting pounded to walls. It takes a bit too long to really get up there, leaving no clues at the beginning of where we are heading. At least they don't ruin the ending for you, consisting of detuned lines literally making the track. Not bad for the newcomers.

07. Tsabeat Vs. Optical Human - CDx4*

“No single space project in this area could be more impressive to man-kind or more important for the long range exploration of space”. The CDx4 stands on its own, in a perusal of techno diversions with a strong bass line and amusing effects, taking us through roads less traveled. The beat could be Gi'iwa material but is something else altogether. I haven't really heard much from Optical Human and the one track I know from Tsabeat is enough to conclude there is a fresh proposal here.

08. DMT Vs. Kreven - I Am Old*

DMT and Creven dwell in deep waters, bending genres with a fast track that falls under with playful guitars by the break digging different textures and sounds, to break away the harsh cacophony Doof sometimes is known for. At the same time it turns somber at parts mixing both in a strange fondue of styles. It's playful and moving, showing they spend their time for this one…

09. Static Nation - Mechanic Dream *

More newcomers rain down with thunder announcing melodies with long breezy pads and certain kinship with Psyfactor and Manifold for some reason. At least they might go well together. Interesting tune inspired by full moon on a graveyard just before dawn hits.

* Favorites

All and all :

Cobra and AMS took their time to present a varied selection of tunes, looking to not stray too much from the usual sound, with interesting ideas spawning in the roster along with new artists. Play Way is an appealing piece of plastic for long-time Doof fans and folks looking to consume something different besides rosy, morning sounds coming from the holy land lately. It is the ying in the yang, or maybe backwards…we are dealing with the dark bit mmmk? and it does its job well for those who enjoy their power trance. Otherwise you might be looking for yang… or maybe its ying…

Well, what do you know. It grew on me. I bought this on an impulse and didn't like it in the beginning at all. Strangely though it still found its way to my discman for the walk to school time and time again with some strange consequence, and I started to like it. I still think the sample in the Entropy track sucks though, but apart from that there are some pretty good tunes to be found here. If you're into the dark and kicking style this is a good cd. For me it needed a lot of listens to appreciate, so maybe other people will experience the same with some of these tracks. Just goes to show that sometimes one can act too quickly.           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment.
