Well what have we hear…considering that the first installment made a huge impact on my taste and choice of music I had been looking forward to hearing this album ever since I heard about it coming out. First I could not believe it but later it was a reality. But the only problem that occurs lately is all the albums I hear of and highly anticipate have all been disappointing ..but lets just check this one out…hopefully this should be a fresh take and after all the music that comes out of South Africa usually is exactly to my liking and is in my terms totally psychedelicious …one look at the track list and already am a lil disappointed not to find scorb anywhere in the listing but there are other power punchers in there such as the likes of Rabdom L(Part of twisted system) and also a shift remix of the covenant which sounds very interesting….

By the way before you go any further if you haven’t heard midnight strorm the first one I mean I still feel its not too late that album still keeps playing again and again everywhere that I am if you want to read the review of the first installment here is the link:

http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/57139/forum/9

Here is the link to the album cover :

http://212.227.206.198/cgi-bin/zoom.cgi?nex1cd008_b.jpg:CDs/nex/nex1cd008.html:;

what I feel about the cover..? well it could’ve been better…the art is all right but the font is something that could’ve been worked upon….

And everything expressed in this review is what I feel in my own humble opinion if its all about choice and taste so if u don’t agree with my review please feel free to post up ur very own review.

Anyways too much of a preview lets get directly to the review…oooh cant wait !

1) Hydraglyph – Breach

Very nice start to the track good use of the beats along with the background synths and the track keeps going ahead and on the course keeps building itself and various patters are easily visible and then the all familiar beats…almost the same one as the first track of the previous midnight storm the lemurians one . And well am already enjoying it…good break after that and then back to the beats…nice slow downa t about the 4th minute and again back to full swing…and after a bit it cuts itself out again to develop back with a nice tune …and its quite nice and a nice way to start out the compilation again I feel.. I have a good feeling about this compilation already…. (7.5/10)

2) Slug Vs Rabdom L – Iron Curtain

This is a nice mix of artists…haven’t really heard rabdom L on his own but with twisted system he makes quite a hell of noise and slug needs no introduction heard some really nice tracks in the past from him…the track starts of as a basic track with normal kick and bass and tune and it keeps going with different variations and can somehow sense a rise but it still eludes me guess we have to hold on a bit but the sounds are quite pleasing until now and at about the middle of the 4th minute the tune is fabulous still not a pumping track yet but has got something decent going on in the track not your regular stomper this one but a minute and a half left u still never know still waiting for some well required stomping time.. not available…. but still a nice tune ...(7.5/10)

3) Manifold – Voinamirov

Ok what do we have here…some Russian feel I assume am not too sure on that…the track gets on quite smoothly uptil the 2:15 mark good vocal and then bam doo like that this track is keeping me going not bad….dont really like the part at the middle of the 3rd minute with the sample being played…not very well placed that I feel and u can feel it rising but again theres something weird about it..and after it comes back to shape nice twisted sounds am liking this part….again the vocals which I still feel are placed wrongly…and maybe not required…at the end of the 5th minute nice beats and bang…this track does have some potential at some parts …even tho its not exactly what I expected to be in the compilation it still is to my liking …(7/10)

4) Multistate – Grandma Death

Well I hear that this is a mix between lost and found and xatrik.. heard xatrik play once and what can I say..fantastic…great music and this combination might just be what I am looking for in this compilation…quite a good start and right uptil the middle of the first minute the track is playin with nice kicks…power punch a little later to unfold a little more ohh sweet sounds start by the middle of the 2nd minute and am I liking it or what…going on good…this track has some nice bouncy feel to it which is very impressive great background tunes combined…and then a break at the middle of the 4th minute and the bass is getting phatter hehe ..and something different for a while and back to the nice bouncy feel..good cut of bass and back again wow this track sure has something different….a whole minute left and the track is being slowed down…hmm shouldve carried on a little longer without reduction but still has some nice feel in the background a few dogs barking and a feeling of dusk in a way niiice and a vocal sample which says “no mail today maybe tomorrow”...i really felt this was a refreshing track lots of stuff packed into this and I am quite impressed… as it’s the first track of mulitstate I have heard and guess theres another name I will keep looking out for….my pick of the compilation for sure(9/10)

5) Shift Vs Azax Syndrom - How Do You Stop It ?

Well this is quite a combination isn’t it…off late the last track of azax that I somewhat enjoyed was Chucky on one of the compilations and well yes he is not the same azax which we know of a couple of years ago but the last time around on midnight storm hagigat was a stomper absolute stomper lets see how this combination works…very typical azax start to the track and then bamm its getting harder and phatter this is the midnight storm I was expecting HELL YEA….good beats and nice tune thus far…track slightly gets cut off and then is being brought up very well I feel….great cut off bass very nicely used…but not impressed by the outcome after that could’ve crashed harder…but still its going on pretty well and mind you only 4 minutes of the track are up….nice vocal samples there on and we see a build up again….good work at about the 6th minute stops and then back on track…this combination sure has a lot of ideas up their sleeves a lot of different stops and breaks tweeks everything is in there…30 seconds left and hehe it doesn’t seem to stop ..overall this is somewhat the essence of what the previous compilation was… good one …(8/10)

6) Abomination – The Hunt

The track starts of with a vocal sample probably from the movie Alien Vs Predator and the tracks starts off with a nice tune along with it that you feel will only unfold better and then there is a kickass sample which says “Gave their lives so the hunt could begin” I kinda liked the way this sample has been put here…then the track goes on in different layers and keeps getting better along the way..by the middle of the 4th minute I constantly moving my head and feet….then its back to the same feel as how the track started and then a more groovier track is the outcome very nice … and again a vocal sample which fits in very well again from the same movie I suppose and here we goo….nice work good build up great release with “The Hunt” vocal sample…overall a good thumping track…I feel this is a good example of artists using vocals in their tracks…this one has been used rather perfectly no qualms at all…good track …(8/0)

7) Azax Syndrom – The Covenant (Shift Remix)

Ahh a chip of the old block..a remix of what was on the previous installment and who other than Mr Hoy Himself…this should be interesting…the track has some interesting alterations its got more power added on to the track..the essence of the track hasn’t been totally modified which is a good thing and this keeps on packing a largr and larger punch hoping this will explode towards the end ..we just have to wait a little longer tho…the buildup is very eminent and stretched a lot and starts of stronger at the middle of the 5th minute…and its nice and packed all through.. enjoyable …but somehow cant pick whether I like the original or the remix …(8/10)

8) Energetic – Overdose

I am not sure if my information is right that energetic is half killerbuds and if it is then we will surely be in for a nice treat on this one.. This track starts of with a simple sample and some beats after a while and then…probably my information is right the killerbuds madness does seem to be visible in this track…the track goes on pretty strong with good work around the 4th minute mark and then forms back into shape goes on blasting and keeps taking different shapes and coming back to the same sample…I keep getting a killerbuds feel repeatedly and sounds kinda nice…decent track but somehow feel the track is in a hurry….hehe strange feel but not bad at all….(7.5/10)

9) Brethren – Moshi Moshi

I Wonder what it is with the Japanese vocals everyone seems to love to put into their tracks probably coz they r strange…but I for one am kinda tired of hearing the japenese vocals in tracks but lets see how this one appears…the track suckes me in by the 2nd minute…I like the wave of the tune very fluctuating but yet u seem to want it that way…then at the 4th minute we again get a taste of the Japanese vocals but the tune that is building up is perfect to my liking and am enjoying this one….and then wow its that same familiar tune again mann I love this part…it might sound a little repetitive but hell its amazing…strong powerful in your face track ..this one will burn the floors nice swarming energy here…must have already been played in a lot of sets across the globe…so If u guys heard a jap vocal sayin moshi and absolutely loved it…heres your track people….(8.5/10)

Well whew that was quite good had a nice time listening to all those tracks and I still have the same complaint…NO SCORB???? and also no individual track by shift...the face on the previous storm was blowing wasnt it??
But on the whole full credit to shift for kinda suprising on this compilation.. u would think he would use the same artists or atleast the same type of tunes on this compilation but stuff like Multistate and the rest of the others in this compilation make it a good choice of music…not all are absolute stompers but then they make up in amazing production… I dunno what the south Africans put into their music its fabulous and this time we have a lot of variety too ranging from Russia to South America … and everyone has put in his influence and not bent it just for the compilation and that’s what I liked the most….

Well if you guys haven’t heard the first installment pick that one as well as this one…as i dare say that is better than this probably for many reasons which u will understand once you hear the first one..
if you have heard that and were waiting for a review on this one…go ahead…heeh guess I am back to listening to it again…but this time in a car.. hehe will b efunny to see a copper psyched to see me grooving my head in the car while I listen to the entire album all over again…

Overall On the whole I would give this compilation 8

This comp is filled with twilight teasers. I loved most of the tracks on this VA.. I think both the first and second part of Midnight storm is unique.

I agree with you zakesm. I would rate it higher, although everyone is entitled to their own opinion. For me How do you stop it, Iron Curtain and The Hunt are real bangers, my favourite three.

big BIG, POWERFUL, BLASTING PSY COOKIE ! With so big names like Brethren, Shift, Azax Syndrom, Manifold and Hydraglyph...this simply couldn't go wrong! And better yet, they were inspired! But what happened to Scorb and N.R.S. this time????????? Why aren't they in the namelist ... They are among my fav night acts! I went to see them live at Aveiro, Portugal this last saturday/sunday and they keep owning I tell ya!!!! The track they made together for Midnight Storm 1 "Nice but Dimm" (together they are R.A.M.) and the one by Scorb (Let's Go Raving) are MONSTER tracks, the best of that album alongside Shift's "The Face" no doubt! I'm sure another monster would come out for this VA!!! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH....

*cools off* *turns on the subwoofer* *volume up* *plays the album*

There isn't one track i can say i dislike, but there are 5 BIG MONSTER TRACKS in here:

1- Hydraglyph – Breach
Yet again, as in tracks in other recent VA's (Twilight Children and Cryptology) Hydraglyph brings a reaaaally powerful track. And again I say, why not more of this stuff in his recent solo album?? Any of these 3 I mentioned beats anything in it, imho! In this track, at 0.50, comes one of the coolest psy melodies i ever heard. Adding to the AWESOME bassline... I simply turn the volume 2 tha max and 'travel' to that other place

3- Manifold – Voinamirov
I've been a fan of Manifold for not many time, but a solid one. With all the nonmusical, noncreative, I daresay crap dark that comes out of russia these days, Manifold stands out waaaayy high up there. The beatiful awesome darker melodies and the moving bassline makes this track one of my favs no doubt! This is how darker psy should be done! AWESOME track!

4- Multistate – Grandma Death
Only track I can remember from Multistate (Lost'n'Found + Xatrik) was "HQ" from the recent VA "Cryptology". Really digged that track but this one is even better! Powerful to the bone and some great happy psy melodies mixing with some creepy sounds and even some kinda industrial ones ehehe! Soooooo original stuff here! A dancefloor BOMB for sure!

5- Shift Vs Azax Syndrom - How Do You Stop It?
Two BIG names of powerpsy here. And a BIG powerful track for sure! Only bit that i edit out is the 3.30-4.30 part. Apart from that, one of the coolest, most moving tracks in this album. Destined to rip dancefloors apart!

9- Brethren - Moshi Moshi
Probably my fav track in the album and instantly one of my all time favs. Brethren (Phyx + Tickets) are bringing some of the most immersive songs ever made imho. Cool powerful start and after around 1min .... undescribable! The build up at around 4min is outta this world I tell ya! YOU GO BROTHERS!

Concluding, the best VA this year for the lovers of powerful, creative, moving psytrance. Don't think so? Buy a decent powerful sound system and give it another try

Yeah a good album .. nice review shaqboy
I loved 3 tracks which stand out in the compilation
First up the manifold track in bits...it takes you high and then brings you down..loved the crunching FX in it.

Second track i liked is
Abomination-The Hunt
This project is just too good .. my favourite lately..awesomer layering of the track.

And the 3rd track is Energetic - Overdose...a full on tracks..groovy bassline..layer of acid melodies...good one by this project

Over all a very nice compilation from nexus media ... its as good as the first compilation of midnight storm.

Good job nexus crew

@shaqattack:
i like what you wrote
the release isnt that horrible but its the same fullon stuff coming from za for months now.
compared to earlier timecode (around the "va - firewall" release or earlier ) and nexus media releases its just nothing.
its not at all fresh or original.
just the same old story and some themes of the tracks are really cheap.
and thats why its so disappointing for me.
boom

and btw:
too bad there are no scorb, ram or nrs tracks on it.          - last possible solution

@ lokus....

point taken
va - firewall was somethin wasnt it!

but about originality well i have to respectfully disagree on that one

as i said in my review this one ranges from tracks from russia to brazil and everyone has his own style for example manifold had some russian feel into the track and energetic had a killerbuds feel...and multistate dont get me started on that...very original and different imho...

but the regualr rest of the tracks are somewhat tried and fried formula...they have worked in the past and well may work this time around too nuthin exceptionally new about them will have to agree on that

cheers !
