http://www.juno.co.uk/covers/265879-01-back.htm

Tracklist:

1. La Baaz & S-Elerator - It's You
2. Duca - Funky Busta
3. 9West - Feel The Buzz
4. Duca - Sold Out
5. Brisker & Magitman - Got To Know
6. Oxyd & Explorer - Sonar
7. Vibrasphere - Floating Free (Beauty and The Beat Feat. Nuke Rmx)
8. D-Nox & Beckers - One Shot (O.G.M Rmx)
9. Drone - Not Your Playground

The review:

Well, well, another proggy compilation from Candyflip Records it is... Let's see how this fares shall we?

Track 1: La Baaz is currently on a roll, releasing several tracks on new progressive compilations. Good to hear something from him again. As most of you know Patrick was (is) part of the Paste duo. Anyway, together with S-Elerator here (whom I've never heard of) he produces a quite laidback tune with an electro kinda vibe. Stays a bit on the minimal side, so the Paste influence is clearly heard. A pretty good opener, although this is definately not a floorstomper or anything.

Track 2: Duca has been releasing quite a number of tracks on diverse progressive labels nowadays. Funky, fat and sometimes rooted in the electro kinda vibe that's still popular nowadays. This track is no different, although it has some lush pads every now and then. It also has a great flow to it and this is one track that will get the crowd moving for sure. Good stuff.

Track 3: Also firmly rooted in the electro kinda progressive with that strong electro bassline driving the song forward. Samples from the American moonlanding (Buzz Armstrong, hence the title of the song) and this song is funky as hell and has a good vibe to it. Supposedly there's an album coming from these guys on Prestige Music (Iboga's sublabel). I'm very anxious for that one, since all of their singles have been good stuff so far.

Track 4: Duca at it again. This song is even deeper and fatter than track 2. Nice work on the bass here and the flow of this one is impeccable. Sloppy work this ISN'T. Anyway, a good track and it sits well in the flow of the compilation so far.

Track 5: Well known duo Brisker & Magitman (also in Elec3) have been producing like crazy over the last year and once again they manage to lay out a great track. The atmosphere in this is a little more laidback than the previous 3 tracks but make no mistake, this is deep as hell. I also like the melody in this one with the bell samples.
Great stuff.

Track 6: Oxyd & Sonar take over and this track is firmly rooted in progressive-land alright. Again, some electro influences can be heard. Pretty standard track though, nothing world shattering, but a pleasant groovy little track. Pity the mastering on the cd sounds a little off in places on this track, as if the balance hasn't been completely correct. Minor gripes, the track is listenable for sure, but it could've been even better with better mastering.

Track 7: THE most wellknown psyprogressive track of some time I gather. Played to death by a lot of DJ's, ofcourse that invited a lot of remixes. This one is really electrolike, and it has a somewhat 80's breakbeat kinda vibe to it. Perfectly executed and with just enough familiar elements from the original so it remains clear this is a remix. Great stuff.

Track 8: One Shot gets the remix treatment next and this is funky all the way. Thought the original was funky? Think again. Once more, this is a perfectly executed remix, just like the track before. Stellar track.

Track 9: Saving one of the best for last sums this up quite nicely. Another deep, lowdown and funky track from the Drone boys. They just keep getting better and better. I'm liking this one lots. Deep pads, nice bassline, great percussion work, some sampling and you're off. Perfect way to end this compilation.

Conclusion time: Overall, this is a very strong compilation, especially if you're also into the more funky mainstream sound like I am. To my tastes the best tracks are near the end, but I like all the tracks on this one. It's best listened to in full, because it takes you through various flavours. Starting off with the minimal La Baaz track, Duca brings in the funk, 9West and the other Duca track continue that vibe, Brisker & Magitman provide the restingpoint with their deep, more laidback track. Oxyd & Sonar pick up the funk again and then the two remixes bring you up to proggy heaven. Drone provides the deep outro, which is more relaxing than the tracks before.

I'd give this compilation an 8,5/10. It could have been a 9/10 but the mastering sounds a little off on track 6. Don't know if this is intentional or not because otherwise the mastering sounds fine.

I'm not having any problems with that, so it's either your cd-player or a defective cd.
Hope you get it fixed, the first track is pretty good.           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

Nice and amazing compilation by Candyflip!!!

Vibrasphere - Floating Free (Beauty and The Beat Feat. Nuke Rmx) and both tracks of Duca are my favourites!!!

I love these kind of proggy-electro-groovy vibes!

Peace

Took a listen again today and this is still some good stuff. I like all the tracks basically, but track 8 makes my day everytime I play it. Great stuff.          "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."
