Track List:
1. Hibernation - Hibernation
2. Bluetech - Prayers for Rain (Ott Remix)
3. 3 Wise Monkeys - It's Gonna Rain
4. Majan - Explore It
5. Tau Kita - Flying in the Rain
6. Interlaced - Insologic
7. Agalactia with Midival Punditz - Aatmatyaag
8. Midival Punditz - Vande Maataram (Electro Indian Mix)
9. Outersect - Kali Ma
10. Pi - Numb
11. Eitan Reiter - Coffee

STYLE
Downtempo electronic dreamscapes. This collection brings together crystalline synth lines, burbling basslines and improvisational snatches touched with shadows of dub, lit with the warm colours of global dance and bathed in vapour-soft atmospherics. The lumbering basslines of OTT and Majan roll along beneath bright melodic phrases and acidic bursts; the world-fusion beats of Midival Punditz and Agalactia compliment voices and instrumentation from the Indian sub-continent; Pi and Hibernation deliver hypnotic digital beauty with liquid tones and blissfully easy rhythms. There are hints of a rather spacey form of rock in places - twisted guitars searing into grandiose crescendos among the more chilled elements. The collection concludes with a mesmerisingly restful semi-ambient track from Eitan Reiter where artificial sounds surround vibrant flute strains and delicate guitar patterns.

ARTWORK
Lush, lush colour and depth of imagery usually marks an Aleph-Zero release - this is no exception. Steeped in the most glorious yellow hues a series of petal-rimmed faces emerge from mandala-like layers of foliage. These blossoming forms hang in gorgeous curling growths throughout the whole package. Graphic embellishments, swirls, curves and curlicues are everywhere. On the back of my promotional two panel folder is a tracklist and an outline of the thoughts behind the project. Within, the track details are expanded against more rich golden blooms with associated credits and publishing details.

OVERALL
The second instalment of Natural Born Chillers has been a long time in coming, Aleph-Zero masterminds Shahar and Shulman stitching together a strongly coherent downbeat journey that follows the form of a gradual build from gentle beginnings into a wave of intensity that breaks toward the latter third of the album. Big names sit alongside less well established artists, Bluetech, 3 Wise Monkeys, Outersect, Interlaced and Tau Kita... The collection is presented as "a genre-breaking story" of "hypnotic rhythms, dubby moves, psychedelic adventures" that range into "different corners of our globe and into other dimensions". In general it's quite a beaty CD with plenty of musical detail and melodic content. There are passages that might well have you dancing with only the final piece having no obvious beat.          MORPHEUS MUSIC

Whats wrong with that review?

I think Morpheus review is actually very thoughtful and well-written and made me very interested in this compilation.

Oh My! What a little gem just landed on my doorstep! Aleph Zero’s most recent output sees a selection of well-known and some lesser known artists cook up a journey into chilled beats, dub, psybient, ethnic and everything in between. Aleph Zero has an impressive track record when it comes to psybient/chill releases. Their consistently high quality output has made them a hallmark within the scene, and this latest release more then lives up to the high expectations.

The first thing that registers is the unbelievably wide sound spectrum which gives the music another dimension in which to tell its story. Massive props to Yaniv Shulman for the mastering! Now on to the music, because something remarkable is oozing out of the speakers from the get go. The promotional blurb speaks of “a musical genre-breaking story that journeys through different musical landscapes and geographical territories”. While in a lot of cases these blurbs are misplaced, self righteous proclamations of genius, in this instance the blurb tells exactly what you can expect. The music truly is a journey, and with the diversity of artists here, I tip my hat to Shahar & Shulman in compiling together so many different angles of beauty and being able to tell a coherent story.

As said, the story touches upon most excursions of downbeat music the scene has to offer. The feelings associated with the meanderings of sound are euphoria, melancholy, peace, warmth, joy and a touch of psychedelia. Some notables are Hibernation’s Hibernation, a very moody and classy opening to this compilation; Ott’s remix of Bluetech’s Prayers for Rain, Ott’s best work since Blumenkraft; Tau Kita’s Flying in the Rain, which has a majestic beauty that brings tears to my eyes; Interlaced’s Insologic, which I number among the freshest tunes I’ve heard in a very long while; and last but not least Outersect’s Kali Ma, which sounds like what I expect a collaboration of Shulman and Bluetech to sound like. However, the rest of the tracks are most definitely not fillers, as they all add to the story and are very strong offerings in their own right.

Recomendation: If you are looking for the ultimate summer companion, look no further. This is the music you want to hear on those sunny afternoons after a night of psychedelic madness. This will soothe the soul and re-energize you for yet another beautiful night. 2009 has been a very strong year for downbeat music in general, and with this release it seems quality has never been higher. I’m very much looking forward to spinning this with a nice cup of chai on one of the upcoming summer festivals! A must have for every collector of downbeat music who wants to be taken seriously!

the more i listen to it the more i like it. to me the ott remix is not that amazing. i mean its a great track but thats because of the original, as a remix its not that amazing. i expected more from ott.
my favorites here are 3 wise monkeys with a great live feel dub stuff, majan that just makes you wanna dance, the fuckin amazing tau kita with an epic psychedelic shpongle meets the floyd with russian acid drippin all over, agalactia & punditz with a track that makes me happy any time, pi with numb- is it just me or is it about a bong? and eitan reiter, this guy really has touch of gold- very special and frash tune.

best psychill release since younger brother and best psychill comp since the first natural born chillers.

addictive elements, love your signature

i was skeptical that Shahar can create the first compilation's magic again, as im still listening to the first NBC after all these years.

but after a few listens its safe to say we got another winner on our hands...

one of these cd's which takes numerous listens to really grasp,
but this is as good as chillout compilations get .

highly recommended

Thanks everyone for all the good words. We worked really really hard on this one (and for a very long time), trying to make a proper psychill release that is musical, psychdelic, diverse and not boring. We're really happy to read the comments here!
