No one in this thread can tell the difference between 320 MP3 and WAV in a double blind test.

You can't. I can't. Its a worthless discussion. Play good music, don't get bogged down in this worthless technical drivel.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

The bigger and better the rig, the more I can tell! Everytime! And so can a lot of other people.
And honestly, if one could not notice a difference, then why do all the Publishers, Music supervisors, label owners and alikes insist on wavs?

I have stopped wasting my time with mp3 a long time ago... If you really need a compressed format, choose flac, it's lossless... Mp3 SUXXXXX!
Big time.

Whenever you can, choose wav. Your audience will thank you for it!!! So will most artists...

I use FLAC/WAV 95% of the time because why not, but do this test:

convert a WAV to a 320 MP3. Then have someone play you both files 10x in whatever order they want - but you must have no knowledge of the order.

Write down which one you think it is. When they play it.

If you consistently get over 50%, congratulations you're super-human. I have tried this, I have failed every time. To my (extremely limited) knowledge there is no one who has passed this test.

It's a bit of nit pickery but people shit needlessly on mp3s.

People insist on WAVs because its the highest quality. There *is* a difference in the physical waveform of the tracks, but it is not a hearable difference (at sufficiently high quality rates - I can definitely tell the difference between 192 and WAV) - and when its so easy to upload and pass around large files for most people why wouldn't you do that?

However, sometimes all you can find is an MP3 for whatever reason. Someone recently gave me a bunch of music, one of these tracks has some weird ass title with no other data in it - its fucking awesome but I can't find out who or what it is. Its an mp3. I will play the shit out of that track and not give any fucks.

Try it on a 50k rig and you'll see what I mean ;-)           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

100% Wave or Flac!!!

Its impossible to determine an original 320 file just by checking its properties!

I actually did a test at the last show I threw. No one shows up for the first hour anyways, so I decided to do some MP3 vs FLAC tests.

Really nice KV2 rig, person who sets it up knows their shit and is definitely one of the cleaner/nicer sounding rigs in town.

No one could tell the difference in MP3 quality until it was below the 192 mark. We didn't have a ton of testers, but all of them were experienced DJs, some with 10+ years in the business.

The whole concept of 'oh man you can totally hear the difference on big rigs' is nonsense - because those systems are designed to make it sound as good as possible, not show the flaws like a flat monitoring system.

I've said it before, I'll say it again - I can't tell the difference between MP3 (of quality bitrate) and WAV, and neither can you            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

To all those who claim that can hear the difference between REAL 320kbps mp3 (not the re-encoded fake ones on the internet) and WAV/FLAC I invite you to post a video of you doing an ABX test and getting 9/10 score.
