ive never done such tinhgs and always kept all my traks in best format ...wav
and if in the middle of my set i try to play a mp3 track the sound quality difference is pretty fat ...so i tough not mix mp3 .

It depends, it only matters if all the equipment you will be using is top end. If there is DJM 600 pioneer mixer, or behringer, or a numark and any shitty sound system then it doesnt matter.

If there is a XOne 92, an EV sounsystem and the other dj's are using WAV then yes probaly it could be noticed.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

You will notice the difference between 320 kbps mp3 and wav on a large sound system. It doesn't matter completely on the equipment, I've heard it.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

People with good ears can definitely tell especially in the high frequencies.

why take a chance if your a pro dj play it safe and buy original cd's or wav's to keep the quality at premium.           "Whoever said the best things in life are free... obviously grew their own bud"

Think I said enough on this topic in previous threads, but to summarize it everyone can hear placebo, me too.
In proper blind tests it's very rare that people can reliably spot a 320kbps mp3 from a wav.
But I guess if anyone who knows what source you use can hear a difference that matters too even if it only in their heads.

And also, perceptual encoding breaks down a bit when processing. Since you tend to do a bit when DJ'ing it could be an actually noticeable difference in some cases.

And if you play from software it's nice to avoid decoding on the fly and play straight from wav, since it will reduce RAM and HD activity.

So IMO FLAC (or wav, but it's just lazy to send it uncompressed) is preferable.
If you only find an high bitrate mp3 of a track, or the price for the flac/wav is ridiculous (ít doesn't cost many cent extra to store and transmit), then it's just silly to choose wav because of a quality concern.
There is a lot better things to put your effort and money into if you like to ensure to have the best possible sound quality than trying to make sure you only play wav.

Actually it tends to be the other way.
If the system is really good the sound is presented in a way that is expected from the perceptual encoding model.
If the frequency spectrum or amplitude is distorted at can for example make parts of the spectrum that should have been masked become audible.
So bad PA or bad hearing could actually make it easier to spot an mp3.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

has anyone tried ogg vorbis or AAC+? Both of these formats are widely agreed to be superior to MP3 at similar bitrates...

Personally I would use all WAV... but beatport charging $1 extra per track makes no sense to me... it can't cost them that much more in bandwidth, and it's not like the artist gets more money.

is way more rental to buy the cds at saikosounds or psyshop than in beatport. Problem is not all albuns that are on beatport are on sale at these other sites, and on beatport you can take only the tracks you like. But if you are going to buy .wavs, it will be super expensive, i did it one time tought when i didnt know it very well, and after i saw the price i rapidly asked for a refund!           ``We shall not cease from exploration - And the end of all our exploring - Will be to arrive where we started - And know the place for the first time.``

If you respect yourself as serious dj never ever use mp3 since it creates serious loss of sound quality, (avoid mp3's please, that's a very bad reference for listening to frequencies and stereo imaging), especially low mid frequencies, mp3's actually get rid of around anywhere from 75% to 95% of the original waveform.
Mp3's at 320kbps can sound very close to wav. The downside is that mp3compression requires extra headroom to avoid distorting. The lower the bitrate the more headroom.

MP3's lol. MP3's have totally decimated the quality of sound in the scene today.
