U broke ass bitch! I think you dont go to this party coz you scared to face the people you talk so much shit about, You prefer to go to the Vort where you can blend into the large crowd and not get identified.

haha..guess who is going to his party..

Ok, well I went to this party and I don't see that there's a post-mortem thread... Just so everyone one is aware, this is because it was such an amazing party, everyone is more than likely still recovering. I for one have lost some integral parts of my brain and I blame that on having trouble finding this thread to begin with...

The good stuff:
Brilliant party, great venue, fucken wicked rig, cheap food, proper toilets, nice security guards, friendly crowd who exuded good energy and a nice big dancefloor.

The bad stuff:
When did psytrance become so bloody one-dimensional, flat and mind-numbingly boring??? I have never heard such uninspiring, bland melodic faeces in my life. I'm very glad all the DJ's had fun, high-fiving each other and pretending to live-mix on their synths, but really. If I had wanted to hear crap eurotrance I could have stayed home with my Scooter CD and eaten a bucket of cheese.

Oh, and the toilets got kinda gross.

However, I do think other promoters should take some notes what with this party being reasonably priced, safe and having decent food. I wouldn't be surprised if people stop wanting to go to events where a burger is R30 and the tickets are R150 and they come home with half their shit missing or someone attacked them with pepper spray or whatever...

Yeah, and that's all I have to say. I think that was my longest and most vitriolic post ever.

then again your "bloody one-dimensional, flat and mind-numbingly boring" psytrance could be my warm piece of apple pie.

whatever that means.           difficile est non saturam scribere

That is also true. Commercialism is commercial because it appeals to the masses, and in so doing becomes easily digestible and easy to assimilate.

I think the apple pie metaphor was a particularly satisfying one, Caligula.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not dictating what everyone else should and does enjoy, take my opinion as you with with as much salt as you choose. Or sugar I just remember when I was a candy raver having a particular fear of psytrance because it was the antithesis of the happy high I chased, and now that I can appreciate the complexity of psy it seems to have turned on itself and become a bit soft.

Not necessarily the state of SA psy, maybe a case of general malaise in the psy industry brought on by a need to appeal to the masses.

Commercialism is a necessary evil I guess.           --------------------

whether necessary or unnecessary, commercialism is a source of evolution within any particular genre. whether this change is good or bad depends on the person, but if it deserves epithets such as 'one-dimensional' and 'flat' i would say it is having a markedly negative impact.

it is true that perhaps a lot of psy has gone 'soft' and has chosen form over content.. and in doing so has lost much of its complexity. of course here i am personifying 'psytrance' as its producers.. and at the end of day this only applies to certain producers.

i put it to promotors, new or established, to maintain the unique complexity of psytrance in their choices of artists, and not just go for who will draw crowds.

i still find it strange that one can refer to 'masses' when less than 5000 people in the entire city of cape town actually have an interest in psy.. although this is true.. and it seems certain genres/cultures thus have a much lower saturation point so-to-speak, than others.

can psytrance survive in its current form, is the question. people say 'full-on is dead' but i strongly disagree when new artists like bliss and electric universe are producing original mind-bending tunes. the worry remains, however, that these artists are the minority.

i hope we find psy is the exception to the rule, and that it - as a necessary evil - expands commercially within currently established boundaries.. and does not leak into undeserved hands.           difficile est non saturam scribere

hmm, interesting opinions and discussion...so i thought i should add my bit

first off i want to say well done to Shizzle...good venue and cool party...it had an all round nice vibe!

i really enjoyed the music leading up until sarasins set, unfortunately (no offence to you sarasin) i started on a very bad trip somwehere around that point and the music just sounded realy really KAK and awful...prolly just me

i do however have to agree with beatjunkie about the dimensionality of the music in general..., i am not going to say any of this out of ignorance as i understand structure and layering, but to the most part the tracks felt a little thin

yeah rate thats all i dare to say for now, but on the whole a really cool and enjoyable party! well done shizzle!

I'm not going to point fingers, but that sounds awfully like you're calling me ignunt???!!! I dare say old chap, that's not very sporting, and there'll be none of that here... I mean I know a layer is what an onion has, and strukture is what a bulding are mayd off hey?

Thought so

See, now you're just avoiding the accusation, mr l337, which leads me to think you WERE calling me ignunt.

tsk tsk.

I actually know that layers are what most people call 'tracks', haha, so there but no really now, let's not get petty, the music did suck and I am entitled to my opinion, onions or not.

I rest my case.           --------------------
