Im using live 8, and im not happy with the bass and kick at present, they sound good alone but obviously if they dont sound good with the rest of the mix is no use.

ive been just using my ears, and i can say that something is not right. On the project im currently working on im using root key A for my bassline, should i just load a kick i like in sampler and set the root key accordingly and transpose it to my liking?.

I know equing plays most part of it but i was told and i believe that fine tuning the kick to the bassline will also make the equing part easier therefore they will sit better together, your thoughts please, cheers guys.

It's hard to tune a kick, since it's just a sine wave sweeping from high to low. There isn't a "note" to it.
Sometimes kicks have a constant freq hovering there for the last few ms - so you can tune to that, but if we're talking psytrance, then most of the time that part gets deleted anyway since we all love short kicks.

you can add a distortion plugin to the kick to tune it to the desired note and remove it afterwards!

Cool idea

I think you can tune the bass also but kick has to be good to.Experiment untill they sit.           http://soundcloud.com/magimix-1/chilling-forest-whispers

Another source of information:

Much will be answered here.

If I understand you correctly, yes

1) For best results without equalizer
kick and bass alternately change it to fit well with each other

2) then the equalizer to improve it again

I am not a professional, I work on me.
but I think you should create by yourself kicks and bass
with synthesizer (albino for example.)
or other tools like Trillian(very good, i love spectrasonic) or bazzism (i like )
and there are many other stuff
with same content

but if i think in first you should have fun

good luck

You can also transpose the kick a couple octaves until it's "tone" is more evident.

usually i use oxford dynamics to cut 0 to 30hz frequencies, since they are inaudible

well i would not say that is all the times true. depends on the sound and of the system . if you remove those and really your kick is not loosing any sub power it might work. listen if it sounds better test on other systems. compare it to other tracks. setting boost there cut there but try to understand and hear what you are doing too.

try some different eq really
hard just to say this is the way to eq and that is it.          http://soundcloud.com/magimix-1/chilling-forest-whispers
