What happened to this sound?
Like the stuff that was coming out 2000-2004ish.
I seriously have not been able to stomach all this new, god-awful electro influenced shit.
So, recommendations (old or new)along the lines of Sensum, Frogacult, Auricular, SBK, etc.stuff with rolling percussion and lots of acid effects and tribal sounds and echoey noises?

Zenon Records is pretty crunchy and good stuff... some of it is not super "psychedelic" to me, more minimal...
I'm also interested in Cosmic Conspiracy Records (NZ) and Crotus Records - but haven't heard any of their releases yet.
--
I hear you... a lot of stuff coming out no longer has that true Albert Hoffman / Timothy Leary "psychedelic" fractal woven into the sound fabric. Some of it, like a lot of proggy and full-on releases... sound pretty straight.. more like like "polished techno" compared to real Goa trance that is dripping with psychedelia.
And just cause it's intricate or complex (like Goa Gil / darkpsy stuff) doesn't mean it's psychedelic. Psychotic is different than psychedelic.

well put. there is indeed very limited releases nowadays that comes close to the awesomeness of earlier more minimal but very groovy and phat progressive trance that I enjoy. like earlier shiva chandra, atmos and beat bizarre, zerotonine etc etc and more experimental like pelinpala, weirdo beirdo.
Shadow fx, Tetrameth are quality more recent artists.
But it would be cool if people shared more local artists that comes close to the older progressive.maybe that does not get enough recognition? I will say first that comes to my mind is Ekoplex . Perhaps not exactly "progressive trance" old skool style but yet driving and groovy musiq

I am sure its not all dead.
The new prog is like whaapened to full on in the sense it got equationized and the equation does not work for me. same old sheet wif all di house/electro influenced which is one part of electronic music I cant stand much. Of course exceptions appen. Shanti

There are many kinds of substyles between progressive psy, some releases have more house/electro elements than psychedelic elements, but they're still progressive psy tracks, and most of them are very good.
The problem nowadays is that many producers are sticking to very standard formulas, and their tracks sounds dull.
By example: The latest album from Flowjob is not so psychedelic, but it doesn't stick to predefined formulas through all the tracks, the basslines are twisted just enough so that each track sounds original, even when the whole album has an evident signature.
For me, it doesn't have to be more psychedelic than electro/house to be good, most importantly is the quality and style. If most releases this year are not that psychedelic is maybe because the artists are trying to reach a wider audience with their productions.
I have played not so psychedelic prog-psy tracks in parties where I was actually forbidden by the organizer to play anything psychedelic and no one has even noticed |

The new Solar Fields is great, but not quite what I'm talking about.
A few tracks that have this particular sound for example:
Frogacult-Drumming Community
Orion-Deep Weed (totally crazy fucking track)
Amphasis-Spark
Sensum-Visionary & Ear Drumming
Llopis-Centrafuge
Just a few examples.
I'm not looking for minimal reccomendations or fluffy prog.

yeah, that is right, now all compilations have the same artists, and they want to sound electro-prog, i think is for the reason of the electro and electro minimal becomes so popular, psy escene have a lot of fashion tendencies, that is so sad |

hey,
sorry, but you are very wrong here. I am just guessing, but i think that you havent checked many other labels, only particular / "popular" ones.
