So I’ve been watching the wonderful Metallica and San Francisco Philharmonic DVD movie and wondered if something like that could be done with some Trance act. I guess that Infected Mushroom’s music can be combined with Philharmonic Orchestra. Definitely Shpongle with classic envelope could work. Just imagine a track like “And the day turned to night”. This might be totally awesome.
What do you think?

well, you'd have to have an acceptable public view to trance. metalica's music, while lyrically explicable, is not, as the public views it, Drug Related. Trance, unfortunatley, is drug-related, in the public's view, and therefore, it would be frowned upon. the idea in itself is Superb, but it'll take a while, imo

Well i think that the drug relation is not the problem. My dad heard both Shpongle albums and thoroughly enjoyed them. No question about drugs weren't asked whilst the process nor after. I think that because the music is vocalless can only help to the brave composer who'll try to write classic envelope to this music, because there's so much more room for interpretation. If you'd hear the work Michael Kamen did for Metallica you'd see that 75% of his work was on emphasizing the already existing melodies. The remaining 25% of the melodies we're additionally written by him. I think that with trance music the percentage could be higher.
I really think that something like that should be concieved. We just need to find someone who is skillful enough and fully understands the depths of both genres.
Michael Kamen for examples is a huge Metallica fan, so the band never felt that their music is inferior in the eyes of the interpretor, which is very important.
I really think and wish that it would happen.

this is a very nice idea!! i guess it would also work with the old-school stuff. maybe adding classical elements to goa is where psy is heading next? it would be worth the try!

I am sure some of the ambient groups will sooner or later do something like this. A merging of styles is happening in psy - ambient.
Entheogenic combine some of this pretty well. Shpongle of course could also do something like this in the future, who knows...

Well by classic, people mean classical instruments not the time period of this style. Maybe we shouldn't categories instruments anymore, they belong now to all styles. It's like Indian instruments they find more and more place in our music.

sorry to dissapoint you, but a friend of mine has been in the Metalica SF philharmonic gig, and he told me how the crowd acted there. it's irrelevent. besides, who said anything about a theater?

Yeah, why shouldn't this work ? If we couldn't make it work and believe in it then who would.
Maybe classical trained musicians would actually like it. |
