The article is very interesting because objective...
Now... Let's hope that the spirit they mention will remain safe... It's the same question as in the "why keep the scene underground" thread...
Even if the parties are bigger, I still want to see friendly faces, and to meet interesting people...
The old freaks HAVE TO "teach" the spirit to the newcomers.. and not staring at them wondering what the hell these "tourists" are doing here.. I hope there won't be a break between freaks and newcomers, this would be the worst thing to happen in Psytrance.. And I would live the same situation as the Techno scene in Germany around 1997-98, which have changed a lot..
And made me flee into the Psy-scene..

Somedays Im in favor of so much publicity and in other days Im against it.
Today Im against it, people who do these types of articles should interview someone who really knows what they are talking about and know the psytrance scene in the uk well not some dude from mixmag. Because they can easily get the facts wrong.
KakoOlalaJwal, good point man
and thanks for the article tom

Am I the only one that laughed reading this article? To me it show a general lack of fundamental knowledge toward individuality and essence in the scene. How can it be objective when it basically paint a picture of all people being into herbalessence and the hippy lifestyle?
Yes it did not mention much about drugs (maybe thats why you all think it's such a cool article?) - it actually painted a picture that gave the reader the idea that illegal drugs are not a part of the scene.... what a cover up We all know that the scene everywhere is flooded with illegal drugs and that it's much more generally used that "herbalessence"
I dont know who is behind the article but I would not be surprised if it's written by someone into "herbalessence" and "hippylifestyle" (paid by a few big organisers) The article is in my opinion far from being objective.
"It has come from people travelling to places like Goa, and it is about a hippy culture that more people have tagged on to because they feel alienated about things like the war."
What does it have to do with the war? Nonsense.
There are so many taggy examples in that article that i could go on about... It's nothing but promotion for a few big party organisers tagging into a new area at their festivals
And last!
It's been known for quite a while (years) that psytrance is no longer underground. It's no news to me. |

Just one more example:
"Although this scene is more interested in herbal highs than illegal drugs,"
yes i know she (or he) then go on to say that the music is inspired by hallucinogenic drugs (which is true) - but come on what kind of statement is this.. LOL - far from the truth as it can be

Now it is attracting an array of new types of people, from pill-popping kids, to professionals, to the older hippies who have loved it for years. There is no snobbery between them.
'I don't mind it going overground at all,' says one of the organisers of the festival and co-owner of Nano Records, Anselm Guise.

Pillbilly kids are the last thing we need. but hey more ppl into it means more $ for the artists, better music, better production, more parties, better fests, hmmmm? but does this pollute the spirit.

IMO, it's not too bad coming from the 'mass media'...
But it's true that for all of us who know it from the inside, it sounds sometime a bit odd...
It might attract new people at parties (good and not-so-good people...) but more important, it might change the public's point of view. People that will never come but would not try to have the parties banned if it happens in their town or neightborhood.

anyway, maybe they have released something, but arent all the labels complaining cause they dont sell??
this article indeed sounds odd, but maybe its a uk thing, as far as i know the uk club scene jumps from trend to trend every 6 months.i hope its true though, better sales wont hurt.
in germany we have had festivals with up to 20.000 people for years.
