Tokyo Clubs are expensive to rent!!!

Am I missing something here? Connections maybe?
I've been looking at clubs for small parties (100 - 200 ppl) in Tokyo. Every club I speak to asks for 300,000 to 400,000 yen for a Saturday night. That's about US$3000 to 4000 for those people not familiar with exchange rates.
I think this is crazy. I remember getting better club spaces in Australia for $100 - $200AU. How can underground organizers promote new Japanese DJs and producers!? No wonder people say the club scene is dying in Tokyo!!!

Someone please clue me in because this has gotta be wrong!!!           The music was like new black polished chrome
that came over the sky like liquid night.

insane isn't it!!! one club i wanted to use with a capacity of 350 people wanted $7000. really the only affordable clubs are the big ones like Club Citta. you get a sound system and a club for 1000 people for not such a high price. but you can't do anything interesting in a big club (just in my opinion). i would love to start a deep tech-house night, or a lounge night, but the costs of doing anything small+underground are just ludicrous, so there is no real underground scene. the only way many organizers pay these bullshit prices is with company sponsors (cigarettes, beer, etc).

yes if you approach it as a business then you will be charged those costs, better to make friends in the right places and work WITH them, that is how i would approach it....but try to find indoor places that aren't clubs necessarily, get creative and you are bound to find something good. Best of luck Ken,

So, to make connections to get cheaper prices, do I have to make Yakuza connections?

Another thing is recently I've seen really strict and bad attitude security at clubs like Spiral, they seem like club security, not police. My question is why would the Yakuza be cracking down on their own customers?

Anyways, I'll keep looking. If anyone knows of a reasonably priced club with security that smiles and no Yakuza connections for a friendly monthly underground party, please PM me. Am I asking too much?           The music was like new black polished chrome

Hey Ken, what about the Djs that are going to play. These guys usually are friends with club owners, then you may get a nice deal. One question: are you going to pay this rental alone, or share it with other promoters? I used to throw parties and share, gaining or losing, with other 9 promoters. This way it does not hurt much.. And why don't you try a Friday night? It might be cheaper and you won't have so many other parties against yours.

Peace and Love.

goa-ganges,
Actually I've secured a club for a monthly Friday night underground event but its on a no risk no profit type deal which means no-one gets paid. I've also done other club parties before as some of you know but all of these have been lucky offerings from people who like my parties. When I try and do something myself I seem to run into the situation described above.
Yes, I am paying for everything myself. I have my own party vision... music. decor, line-up ...etc. I suppose I like to keep artistic control.

Yes, I will definitely see u on Sunday, even if still haven't shaken this cold. Lets scheme!!!

This whole situation makes me just wanna concentrate on the outdoors, everything just seems so much easier.

Thanx 4 all your comments everyone.

Bom!
