ok here is a real review, or whatever it is that i do...

Twisted System:
The Dealers
TIMECODE RECORDS 2004

1. Jawz of Wizzdom
2. Secret Syntheses (rmx)
3. Crystal Virus
4. Twisted Syster (rmx)
5. Artificial Intelligence
6. Die Nag Merrie
7. Doomsday
8. Dissrespekt
9. The Eye

"Twisted System deal dancefloor destruction and psychedelic bliss.
In this 9 track album a rubix of sound delights are in store for you - dark pads and atmospheres - pristine techno rythms - skanky grooves - basslines to bounce the booty for hours on end.
Twisted System are no newcomers to the scene with over 50 releases between them Shift, Phys and Rabdom L bring you this psychedelic delight with no holds barred.
The album written over the past South African summer season, is fresh from the Timecode studios."

...basically we get to reap the benefits of these guys having a doofing blast over the past several months.

1. sliding right into the middle of a thick wobbling thump engine, you are energized over and over again by bright edges flashing by. the groove is deep, the layers distinct, the techyness is slick. you can hear the different sounds and styles of the artists involved as the song evolves, before long the giant 3-d sounds take over and create a monster blast. a catchy little stutter inspires hip shaking, an almost triumphant darkness feeling. it continues to grow and morph, the break at the half way point gives everyones legs a chance to stop, or to speed up! scientifically designed to send lightning up your spine, make you feel weightless and send you up, up, and off into the tangled web in the dark sky above you. the right amount of grind gives an almost industrial taste, a menacing monster machine!

2. a remix of a phyx track from the timecode release "ORBIS TERTIUS. this version maintains the omnious roar of the original. very disorienting sounds, bent and melting all around you. i would call it dark, images of strange slime monsters. then! the leading edge comes in to show us the prevailing energy, a heated and perseverent anthem! the tones used are very powerful, and the change-ups are made to send your head off. again the breakdown in the middle, (oh yeah i forgot this was a remix)... it gets intense as hell, a massive kick roll sends us deeper into the darkness, a buzzing sense of evil, and yet, somehow, you know you will prevail... this dark path we set out on in our lives, we will make it through! the final movement is simply blow-up science, tingles all over, basslines morph freely and with vengeance, sounds zoom and fly and pierce your mind, you are tingling, jumping, chanting, cheering, laughing at the madness of the giant sound alien that has ruthlessly taken over your fucking mind.

3. straight to the thick round crisp kickbass, this techy roller shows us the gleaming metallic edge, sharp as a knife. the grindy stabbing lead brings a somewhat ravey feel as the underbits pound out a mad dark rhythm. a massive staticy and buzzing beast is conjured from the magical powers channeled here. a swirling and fully warped sound leads us into the break, the sound is suddenly coming from under the floor, and then worms its way thru every microscopic pathway until its fully surrounding you again. the drums are beat relentlessly with the raw power; and playfulness is apparent, they are playing with our minds. a cyberific journey.

4. a remix of one of the hottest tracks from timecodes comp CIPHER, which tore holes in eardrums all last summer. this version gets some more psychedelic FX, deeper, rounder. simply chugging along, the details go by so fast, you are turning your head. the main phrase from the original is presented thru several filtration devices, and laid over a more aggressive foundation. more trickery and switchups, building and clearing, raising, higher, then taking you by the hair and swinging you around inside this huge sound machine, you are part of the process now, you cannot escape, you are stunned at the variety of minute changes going past you. so, where is this Amazing Bassline University, in South Africa?

5. the jam from the most recent timecode comp, FIREWALL, is re-released here for additional exposure, as this could potentially be one of the best songs ive heard. i will review it differently as it comes off fresh on this release. it has a very deep feeling, i find myself humming its sounds while im shopping, it capsulizes the tension that pervades modern life, we are being controlled, we are exposed to energies and technologies now that we have never faced before. the blowup is a giant ramp that you are sent off of, from there the song flips and takes you on a zooming cyber adventure. literally, a morning mind melter, do not play it unless you are sure its time, but when its time, rock it.

6. a somewhat mysterious soundscape forms... after a bit, it steps up, bouncing. the skill with which the movements are crafted really creates a very intense visual effect. a great snappy snare gets my attention, i was drifting, put into a zone by the flowing matrix presented here, the stomping away of time, theres a menacing little smile on the face of it.
the weird warbling, acidy pads tweak their way into your heart, the kick comes back, doubling up, then whoosh... another change up, a grindy lead, and the snappy is back, bendy, wiggly, funky as pure evil. another ramp, next level, all sounds converging on your brain, you are the conduit for a massive download, your stomping monkey body becomes translucent, you are out of control, but this mind-control starship is just on a cruise, you realize the greater powers present, you are humbled. so there.

7. sad and brooding, a song emerges, giving musical quality to this highly technological environment. the ground shifts and you are locked in a driving tech missile, stars whisk by, the hull of the ship glows from friction, the motors pumping away, you enter a nebulous form, it reflects to you media memories and recorded flashbacks from the formation of your personality, the sounds resonate through the cold reaches of space. before long, an armada of vectors aimed precisely, forming one big forceful wave of direct energy. phasers set to stun, the information blasting you from all sides. boom.

8. a melting buzz is wrapped around a undulating funkpump, throwing sounds off into space to test your tolerance. a baby cries briefly. (which usually makes me skip to the next track) "this is an illegal gathering!" well damn, just go with it, its nasty, full of sound, changing faster than i can write about and just straight up funkin boom shankar to the motherlode! "this is an illegal gathering!... you must DESINTEGRATE!" the lazers aim at your head, heating, zooming around you, flying faster now, all angles, all colors flying at you as the giant resonating thump metronome pumps. you have entered full space. an instant of scientific silence begins your new life. attention: this life is the same as the last, we are sorry for any inconvenience that this massive overload of information may have caused you. please enjoy your regularly scheduled tranceparty.

9. a churning and gurning thump gets jiggy with it as slick and multifaceted techno layers are spread down like so many luxurious translucent blankets. as you lay on your newly formed bed of sound, the ceiling does some strange things, im trying to focus, but, it keeps moving. then a dark feeling washes over, this is all an experiment, you are part of a larger picture, you are just a function of the output of the speakers. the deepness is unchartable, the percussions slippery, the pads are vaguely boards of canada or aphex twin. theres a strange weirdness afoot, the album slows to a halt.

utmost thanks to phyx for the cds.

Great album! I had good expectations, but it still managed to surprise me. Sounds a bit Shifty... in a good way.

Best Timecode release for me, so far.           How am I supposed to hallucinate with all these swirling colors distracting me!

yeah great review for a great album! rejoice night time music lovers, this is a gem! its got it all: fat rolling bass lines, dark swirls, mean squeaks, powerful percussions, and twisted synths...
my personal favourites: crystal virus, doomsday (the name does set the general mood of this track!!) and Dissrespekt (evil baby samples hehehe!)           Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

thanks for the good comments about my review my friends! sometimes its hard to write about trance, i dont want to try to categorize as much as i want to just write what it makes me think and feel.

Twisted System are C. Hoy aka Shift + I. Summs aka Phyx + C. Hudson aka Rabdom

1. A typical Timecode sounding opens the cd with leads half squeaking, half scaring but not my favorite (too flat i would say).

2. The tune opens on a falling in succession lead exactly like dominos upto 1’30. Then time is for more usual Timecode’s tones, i mean at the same time pachydermic & squeaking-grinding remaining all along. After 3’10, you penetrates through the break into a more apocalyptic atmosphere. Some industrial backgroundisk rythmic appears at 5’10 & little by little the track gets more intense & shrill upto the end.

3. There’s a weird lead after 2’00 which sounds like a child groaning except this the rest is globally composed oh harsh tones with especially a special electric drill lead for example.

4. Sharp sounds jumps all over here , maybe we are entering the inside of a metal can of mexican jumper peas unless unless it would be a saucepan to cook popcorn. Must be the second idea as you can hear the first one blowing up at 3’05. Then litlle by little (mainly between 5’00 to 7’00) you know all perfectly what happens, all the pop corn are hitting all over & even are trying to push over the lid to find out the furnace.

5. This one makes me think about Xenormorph’s stuffs, so for those who don’t know this artist, let just say that’s a concentrate of dark tones & apocalyptic feelings with haunting leads.

6. Some more colourful tones here which are combined with a psychotic ambience & a strongly opressing –emotionnal lead (break after 3’30). The rest is quite electric or squeaking fullonish oriented.

7. Here it is another gloomy production with a rain of acid-shrill tone which will contrast a bit at 2’40 with a medium lead. The thing not already calm at begining evolves towards more crazyness & nervosity with electric riffs.

8. Now time is for the smashiest tune of the album & btw the fastest too, no time for long reflexion here & just let you follow the beat.

9. The Eye is by far my favorite tune of the album, the intro is quite estonishingly floating (this lead will appear again at the break of 6’00), the elements of the rythmic are also different from the other ones with kinda imitation scractches sounds at first. Come back also to some huge pachydermic lead & bassline , & the combo snare/hithat is nicely lashing, with highly metallic hithat close to saturation.

I would say the Twister System’s sound would better fit to night full on with strong pachydermic & psychedelic flavour adepts, for the others i think it’s listenable too but can reveals more repetitive & difficult to catch.

Highlight :9
8/10
