I think that Scream is one of the worst thriller/horror movies I have ever seen... Wes Craven made effort on this kind of thriller/horror blockbuster in a very "clever" way by mixing teen movies and serial "evil" killer... Bljaakk... And after this one, the teen/horror nightmare had continued with such a shitty films like I know what you did last summer... I really can't stand that kind of movies, but that is just my opinion ... |

So what are they (Butterfly & Jacket)?
Science fiction?
I find them a little bit scary (especialy Butterfly)...
The Serpent and the Rainbow is very realistic with no metaphysic elements.
That's why i think it is a thriller.
Also i like that it is explaining the voodoo stuf with pharmacology.

Jedi Knight The Jacket is a fantasy/drama film with a few elements of science fiction,same goes for the Butterfly Effect which ofcourse has more science fiction in it.Nobody would recommend these two when asked by someone else for a good thriller.
The term thriller applies to movies such as Seven,Silence Of The Lambs,Cape Fear and ofcourse the excellent Angel Heart which you already mentioned.
As about The Serpent And The Rainbow it is 100% horror film and a very good one actually.20 years after it and i can still remember its cover very clearly with that guy screaming in the coffin,i was very young when i first saw it (the cover) and it gave me a lot of nightmares and thats why its picture is still in my head.
