I hope you wont be dissapointed
To me progressive house or some electro house, and the progressive scene too, are way more interesting and refreshing than most psy trance.
There are 2 reasons why I thínk that.
Reason one: The majority of people are a bit older and seem to go more for the love of the music than for the love of the chemicals. At least they do not promote drugs so openly as the psy scene is so famous for and you wont meet many Bom Shankar "We are all united in a higer state of consiousness" kind of attitude I personally have grown so tired of in the psy scene. No offense. It is just not for me.
Reason two: The music is way more evolving at the moment. And it is closer to what i call hypnotising music and if we look at tribal house it is 10 times more tribal and hypnotic than the majority of psy trance today. It is not stressed at 145+ bpm and there is room for experimenting and details.
Of course at the end of the day it comes down to taste but it is interesting to find many of the old Goa/psy artist and party people from around 1993 - 1998 now more involved in the progressive House scene than in the psy scene.

Great answer mate..
It seems to me that this thing that happens nowadays with the brew of electro with deep and psy sounds just heeps more psychedelic and musical than any "psy" trance around. I find a lot of inspiration in that music, and none what so ever in modern "psy" trance.
More over that "psy" trance mostly aimed at 15 year olds popping pills like there is no tomorrow. It never been the intention in the first place, and I would say this makes the music pretty shallow and unchallenging.. The only thing that is great in most of "psy" trance of today is the breakdowns and FX at the end of every 16th bar..

yeah a lot of psy is pretty crossover music .. in that i mean it wont freak `normal` ppl out on a first listen .. its like a stepping stone to psyworld .. .. and besides .. id really personally hear some nice proggy over hard psy in a club situation for example ... also afternoons at festivals prog and some light haopopy fullon is nice

Persons dont always make the same music as they like to listen. And most of the times when you´ve been producing for a time you start developing something that you didnt plan on making 2 years ago. In some cases you develope towards a sound that just sells more or a sound that just dont sell. I dont think everything is planned every time so I dont think we should complain about it. If you dont like something, dont listen.
I personally loved the Israeli Psychedelic Trance compilations in the 90´s but then again people started mixing better and the sound changed with it. I think the problem is that people are trying to put goa and todays what you call Psy dance in the same category which provides us the whole issue. It is not the same music so we just need to separate them and accept them as different things. That way we wouldnt need to walk around beeing so pesimistic about these things. Hmm.. I dont know if I started to talk about a whole bunch of other stuff.. But anyway http://www.zekazy.net |
