So I wake up this morning and plug into my favorite playlist, 3 tracks down and the 4rth suddenly skips a beat.. the way a scratched cd does. This is not downloaded music and i still have the original cd.. so there is no question about quality as it was directly ripped via itunes.

Does this mean i should replace music on my Ipod every few years? does mp4 have a life cycle so to say?           Nothing is said that has not been said before.

Happened to me couple of years ago.
Maybe it's an error on the ripping.

yup!

try restarting the ipod & then put the same track on, if it still skips try playing the same file on the pc           the problem with valuing art is, till u dont understand it, it's worthless but wen u do understand it, it's priceless!!

Sounds more like a problem with the iPod itself rather than the file. No, files don't deteriorate.

The audio hardware in the iPod is very low quality; not really geared at music enthusiasts.

As weird as this might sound, you're going to get MUCH BETTER audio quality out of a cheap flash memory based mp3 player than an iPod. That said, you can also find "digital media players" (which I believe Archos makes), where you can play ANY format including wave. Although it might not be the best use of space in that situation, you can definitely play waves off of something like this.           http://www.soundcloud.com/djKAHN

well the last time i encountered this problem, a few weeks down the line my ipod just died.
my friend, i think its time to look at that ipod hard drive
hope im wrong, but mines still lying as dead as a dodo

@ kahn - i did not know that, i knew that the pod outputted everything at 192 kbps, but that a simple flash player is actually better? damn i want my 200 bucks back           www.soundcloud.com/ishikawa
