the fact that it doesn't allow most cd readers to play the music, thats just GAY, and they should revise their tactics.. but something should be done to prevent the average joe from spreading the music..           "VA - REWIRED" OUT NOW !! I think this war the music industry doesnt have much of a chance because people are always finding ways to download (free), burn original cds (cracks) etc.

Thats was my point with this topic

THIS IS NOT A PIRATING SHIT AGAIN

It's about the fact that the new Anti-Copi system is completly inneffective and worse, it make CD unreadable on many player!!!

yes heard bout it and saw a few cd's in shops under this technology

also true that if there is a code then there are ppl to break it

but the question is how effective is that? i mean not everyone is technically sound to break tht code and pirate it.
so is it worth for the record lables to release the music under this technology?
is the manufacturing cost very high compred to the normal pressing?
what will be the % of picary reduced under this format?           ------------------------------------

Like I said before, people who want to crack the coding will do it.
The real piracy problem is not me copying the cd to a friend, it's mp3 release groups spreading the release over many people on sharing communities thus allowing high scale download of the release.
mp3 release groups are usually people which works in the distributors, labels, or they are just connected people. They have access to the non protected material and copying it shouldn't be a problem. If they can't get it, they will crack it. 15 minutes on google and downloading software is all you need.

Bottom line: There is no point in making protections because the people who buy it are the ones getting screwed up, and not the pirates.

Fully agreed. Anti-pirating measures that make it difficult to listen to music on my computer just piss me off and make me less likely to want to get any releases from that label again. I don't have a normal stereo at home (just a DJ setup in one room), so most "listening CDs" are played through my laptop when I'm around the apartment. Same when I'm at work - everything gets played on the computer. When I can't listen to CDs on my computer because of copyright protection, they are useless to me.

Labels have every right to protect their material from piracy, but I believe invasive protection on CDs is the wrong way to go about it. All it takes is *one* person crafty enough to rip it and share it, and the whole scheme is useless.

IMO, online digital sales are the way to go (but that's a whole different topic).

i think no protection can be done, because there are programs to "Self-record" the computer, so enough to put the cd in the computer and play it and u can record it.

u can find "Anything U Want" using the search...

you are totally unaware of how many sales are lost do to pirated music...

How do they (who sell) even know themselves? The mp3-sharing has existed for maybe 10 years now, what labels have been up and active so long? Not many... Let's face it, sharing/copying/trading (among other things) will not stop, there's no use trying to prevent it.

If i got you right you mean you put cd into pc and then play and record at same time?
But the problem is that
there are some protections that make pcs unable to recognize the disc, so you can't even play it at pc.            Signature

the good thing about thinking information as an entity is that it gives us the perspective that it will always find a dodgie way to spread itself.

If I found out a CD I wanted to purchase was copy protected, I would not buy it. I DJ from my laptop, I make hi quality MP3's to DJ, and to put the files onto my station. A copy protected CD is useless to me. It's really not fair considering all the money I spend on CD's.           -xo Truffle Radio ox-
