Let's see how fast this one plummets down the page

The Nam Shub of Enki Meets Kiki.Ill in the Valley of Mood

out now on Creative Space

Perpendicular (Ft Elf Tranzporter)
This is pretty laidback funky stuff by Nam Shub standards, possibly a little reminiscent of his last album on Demon Tea. It still pounds along pretty nicely however, with some tweaked samples. Bassline is somewhat electro sounding & the rhythm section just gets more freaked out the further through the track you get.
Love is Everything
Here comes the high tempo onslaught. Got a feeling that the filter sweep drum intro is just the start, easing us into the traditional kiki onslaught. But no, I'm wrong. This is actually another relatively chilled out d&b number, with some soft, tweaked female vocal samples. Perhaps just like his live sets, he's easing us into the massacre?
_Clickher
Semi-classical glitch intro leads into dancefloor friendly drill n bass at a reasonable tempo. Things start getting real nasty, grindy & base heavy around the halfway mark. Still haven't entered the realm of true kiki madness though. There are some light sounds in here that set a dark mood, but don't give a 'hardcore' vibe.
The Pursuit of Seizure
Ah, now we're getting into the more menacing gear. Totally fucked up breaks aplenty, with a total freakfest of synth tweakage over the top. Things start getting nasty around the halfway mark - just pounding bass & non 4/4 distorted beats. I suggest anyone who thinks "killah" is 'hardcore', 'dark', 'evil' or 'powerful' should listen to this track under the influence on a big PA
Sludge Mop
This one is a distortion laden excursion into noisy downbeat breaks. The sequencing is ultra-tight & the production is top notch (don't be fooled by the grit.. I would wager it's entirely intentional). Nice bassline. It's rocking yet quite slow. Think it's just the production making it sound so fat.
Meno-Anu (Kiki.Ill meets Notkea Rotta)
This is a remix of Finnish hip hop group Notkea Rotta & is a complete drill & bass slammer, guaranteed to rock a party, as long as it's not a psytrance party of course! Pretty fast though. You could probably just keep up with the tempo if you were feeling really energetic, though dancing at half pace could be a better option for prolonged trance dancing.
Speedway
Nasty, nasty samples about chocolate speedways & all sorts of other things bedroom related. Totally out of control track. I think Phil is the master of drill & bass. I've never heard anyone do this genre like he does. Then again, I haven't heard that much drill & bass. This track is just hard, fast & dirty, that's all there is to it.
Eyn Tzu Oj Zwie
More slamming bass laden intensity. Just pounds away for a couple of minutes before a breakdown, then the fun starts. Tearing synth sounds rip through your consciousness, propelling you into a frenzy of motion, before we drop back into the original space of soundscapes over a slamming kick. Predictably, things kick back in & the dancers are left happy, if a little tired.
Legion Heirs
I think this track may mark the end of the full on-ness. It's certainly a well earned break. Pulsing bass sounds under oddball organ chords & bizarro melodies. Not really a lot of progression throughout the track. It's just one big, weird, melodic, downbeat glitch number.
Pregnant With Ooze
Oh this is groovy shit. Just really nice percussion work with some great tweakage to boot. More high quality bottom end work. It's so hard to describe this sort of music. I suppose glitch would probably be the right word, although the rhythm's not too challenging for the most part. There are moments where it gets broken up, but for the most part it's got a solid groove.
Blue Birth
This seems to be the last hurrah. More uptempo than the last tempo, but nowhere near as hardcore as the more full on stuff earlier in the album. Some pretty scary synth sounds in here though. Really great rhythm section that is broken up nicely, retaining both unpredictability & 4/4 dancability for the most part.

What to say about this one? Well, I think Phil Thomson is a hard bastard when it comes to writing tracks. The production is intentionally grimy with devastating effect. I also think he is either very angry, or has an extremely twisted sense of humour. It may be a case of a little from column A & a little from column B. Slamming album for those who love slamming beats. 9/10           new Hadal Drop album on the way

oops.. sorry... I've been informed that this actually hasn't been released yet & that Creative Space are waiting on the covers to be printed

I picked up my copy at the launch party here in Brisbane & it has a cover, so maybe they just put it together just to sell at that party?

As far as I know it will be available when released from http://www.psy-harmonics.com.au/           new Hadal Drop album on the way

Nam Shub of Enki - read Neal Stephenson's book "Snowcrash"
(and everything else by that author is amazing too!)

cant wait to hear this album!

hmm.. not much like Rolf on this one... it's all a fair bit more d&b oriented, but still some crazy dancefloor (& non-dancefloor) moments to be had

The name comes from a Babylonian 'myth' & I believe it has something to do with the Tower of Babel. It is explained in Neal Stephenson's book but is not restricted to that fictional work. I can't remember whether it's a language spoken that destroys people's ability to communicate or a language that everyone can understand. It has something to do with 'speaking in tongues'. But yeah, read Snowcrash - it's explained pretty well in there           new Hadal Drop album on the way
