Pom yes you right,at this level all is getting very expensive but one can build on step by step even slowly or still each better piece is always better even if the interface is not even an rme ,there will be a difference in quality with better monitors I guess.
And I know Metric Halo and such are the better ones than rme.
Orgytime I think you've made a great choice buying decent expensive monitors. You can still build on or improve on your room accoustics treatment, absorbers etc at some point if you're not enough satisfied, piece by piece etc.
I changed my personal opinion ,good monitors are most/more important even than accoustic treatment imo.Its hard to build good monitors ,but it is cheaper and possible to build absorbers etc by ourselves I guess.
Thanks for the link, gonna read it soon.Gearslutz is an interesting side.

yes even with cheap soundcard you will hear big improvment for sure , my experience with room acoustic treatment is if you don t want to spend a fortune, you better have or move in a good room , choose your next home with your studio in mind. |

I own focal CMS 40. I have a small room and they are great as you can sit a bit nearer to them than most monitors (optimal range from 40 cm onwards) so they are designed specifically with small rooms in mind. Of course on paper they lack some of the bass response of larger monitors but the bass sounds surprisingly good. I tried adam A7 in my room before I got these because I had heard them in a studio and liked them but in my room it was different. My mixes translate better with cms 40 when I check on other setups. Just my 2 pence. |

The frequency response of the 8020A starts at 66 Hz. The Focal CMS40 at 60 Hz.
Both are too imprecise to work on bass & kick. I'd take a pair of speakers with a lower end or the above mentioned only in combination with a sub.

yes better you judge by yourself if you can have a listen to them, listen to more expensive monitors at same time it might make you want to wait to have the money for them .i never heard any of these speakers but i think it will be a lot of gessing game arond 50 hz and below making it harder to balance well your track for soundsystems.(you can add a sub later) me i would by a pair of ns10 for that price and add a sub but dont listen to me , it s just for curiosity i would like to try that set up but have no idea how good it is, for 350 euro i might give it a try .many producers ,mixing engeinners use these but it might be cause they are used to it.. no point in replacing monitors after years learning them. |

I listened to 8020a but the Focals for me were in a different league. I also check my Kick + Bass on headphones with a good DAC. I would buy bigger monitors with better sub response if I had a good room with treatments but be very careful of using big speakers or subs in a small and not well treated room! |

it depends many factors that i m not experienced enought to explain and to understand fully ,for example the type of walls,if the room treated and many more ... but small room >> smaller speaker is not a rule at all, it will depends the room and the monitors used .
if you have 25 m2 with treated acoustic i wouldn t choose small speaker (imo small monitors are great reference for multimedia/car/radio.. speakers but not soundsytem or clubs, you dont even hear the fondamental of the bassline or the body of the kick with these , you can make great mix on them but that not the question, it still don t make small speakers good reference for big soundsytems)
problem is the price too, it s maybe better to have a good small speaker than a big crappy one that cost the same price.. you have to listen for that. |

I've narrowed my choice down to dynaudio bm6a and focal solo 6be.
I would like to hear more psy producers comment on the focals.
Dynaudio or focal..i'm planning to use them witouth subs.
The dynaudio seems to be a saver option as they already have proven good for psy.(a lot positive reviews/users in the genre)
but i am very interested in the focals also
...need more opinions over them. eg bass response without subs
thanks and cheers.
