ive had those as a second monitor next to my bm5a for a couple of years..

they are really nice except the fact that they lack bass.

but they are capable of translating very well what you do on the daw.           http://www.landmark-recordings.com/

would it be better to go with krk rokit powered series then? or what could be just as clear but with more bass? I read you can buy an Adam's sub8 to help out, but that just bumps up the price total for it all.           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page

k also..... if i'm also doing quite a bit of rock production, are the adams a5 still the way to go? I saw some recommending the m-audio bx5a's but i'm not really sold on m-audio, though they're supposed to have a solid bass presence as opposed to the adams a5.           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page

Hey, I just got the Adam A5's and they are realllllllllllllllllllllly great. Thanks for the advice.

I'm hearing things I never heard before on bigger 'better' monitors. I think the big monitors just didn't suit this small room.

I can REALLY hear panning now in everything and it's just such a change. Awesome. Thanks again!           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page

Greetings one n all...
I'm after a pair of monitors as i have been playing around for a while with some cheapo speakers and my headphones..My budget is between 200 and 300 squid...Here's a shortlist of what i'm interested in but any further help from people who have used or heard them would be greatly appreciated:
KRK RP5 ROKIT G2
Alesis Monitor 1 MkII
M-Audio Studiophile BX8A or BX5A
BEHRINGER B2030A TRUTH
MACKIE MR5
Yamaha HS50M
Ok maybe not a shortlist but a list none-the-less
Many thanks

My secondary pair is the Alesis M1 mk2 actives. They are good for the cash and they are nice to listen to. Although nice meaning they will kinda "lie" to you making you think your mixes sound better than they really do.
But they are good for small rooms and once you get used to them, you will always use them in the future, even if you get better monitors later on.

samson rubicon r6a.

i just love those... they are cheap and they sound alot more expensive.

ive had the r5a in my studio along my dynaudio bm5a and they are very good in the high end losing only in the low/middle end from the dynaudio.

i dont care much about magazine reviews but sound on sound feel the same as i feel about them..

Hey! I'm looking for my first monitors in the 200-300 price tag too, could you give me a honest opinion about the following ones?

Mackie MR-5
Adam A3X
Genelec 6010A
Alesis M1 Active 520
Alesis Monitor One mkII

Disco Hooligans already wrote about M1 mkII, but what about M1 520, is that better or worse, because M1 520 is more expensive at the shop I checked the prices.
Also, I was unsuccessful to find a shop which distributes Samson monitors in my country, could anyone can help me out with this, please?

Thank you!

musician's friend has a pair of m1a MKII's on sale for $240 free shipping. might be good starter monitors

some info-

"The system is specified flat within ±2dB from 50Hz to 20kHz, and the response is 10dB down at 40Hz and 23.5kHz."

Thank you!

Btw, I realised that the Mark II I found at the shop was a passive version, this is why it was cheaper then the active Mark I.

oh man.. i just found this out -

"Commercial silk kills the silkworm. Conventional silk is made by boiling the intact cocoons and unwinding the single silk strand onto reels"

maybe buy monitors with no silk =/           "all is impermanent, all is without self."

hey guys i m trying the focal cms sub , good to have some low end back, the sub seems killer... tight and controled bass flat till 30 hz ( crossover at 90 hz so the montiors dont deal with low end might give better mids at same time) ,try them if your looking for monitors,cms65 mediums are very good on their own with the sub additon the sound have a lot more depth and low end is great...it s subjective but i find it better than the 2 way moniotrs i used. ( the 10 or 11 inches woofer might help ) for my taste they destroy my adams p22 and all monitors i heard in the 2000 euro range ( i like the adam tweeter and the highs and mids i ll still keep them as reference) just wanted to share my joy with the focal .
i think subwoofer are a big plus but it need correct set up to get in phase with your monitors and to get a transparent crossover betwwen them and the sub and offcourse the room acoustic is crucial .
with monitors i used that cut around 40 hz (bm6a and p22a )the bass is just not the same you hear it but it s not detailled and less depth , the sub just output these freqs effortless and its very clear , it s really a other dimension to me... and it s what i missed for so long, now i can really feel the vibe and enjoy the music, without sub bass it just sound like 1/3 of the dynamic of a track is missing
