Is a 8.5" woofer too big for this room? Length 12ft, width 9ft, Height 8ft. The room isn't treated, but I do intend too this year.

Cheers,
Andy

ok, got my 1st experience of studio monitors today.. i went right ahead and purchased the krk rockit6 g2's.. why? solely because of the 'bang for buck' factor.

I'm listening to some tracks, at this moment, that i consider to be good mixes.

U ppl should have warned me. I wasn't ready for this. Maybe because i never heard monitors. i was mixin on alrightish microsoft desktop speakers with sub. but, shit,, this is no comparison.
The sound is absolutely supremely amazing.
The definition is beyond what i ever expected.

now some say these krk's is a bit colored. if that is true. i do not even want to know what decent dynaudio bm6;s sound like.
holy fukin mother of as all.
It is like every instrument in the mix comes out and shakes my hand to let me know how important i am to them..
I never want to hear music through hifi again.

Has anyone mensioned JBL LSR2300 series?

I bought my JBL LSR2328p's a couple of months ago, and I'm very satisfied. Wide sweet-spot plenty of bass, and there is a sub in the same series, which i'm going to buy as soon as i can afford it!=)

anyone have any thoughts on the yamaha hs80m series?
i feel that they're a good mid level monitor for the price (specially since i got both mine for a cool 200 bucks! yay ebay!)
how do they stack up against others? i don't have anywhere to go listen to multiple monitors in a day...

the HS80m are very good monitors in this price range.
i use them myself as my main monitors and i can't complain.

they have a nice low-end and a clear overall sound.
really a great deal you got, i hope for you that they are alright and still fully functioning.

the most important is that you get familiar with your monitors and get to know them well.

I need to buy a pair of speakers to mostly listen to music. Listen to Psy 90% of the time & 10% rock. I play cd's on CDJ 200 connected to a DJM 400 mixer, QSC amp & Bose 301's. Need to upgrade my sound.

Should I buy a pair of active Dynaudio's/Mackies or go for hi-end Hi-Fi speakers like B&W 685

http://www.bowers-wilkins.co.uk/display.aspx?infid=2301

or Polk Audio LSI9

http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/lsi/index.php?s=lsi9#lsi9

When comparing studio monitors & High end hi-fi speakers of approx same specs , Which will provide greater listening pleasure & clarity.

p.s - all the above options are within my budget.my music room is approx 16 ft length x 12 ft breadth x 12 ft height..           ********************************************

If you want for production and you want the most neutral sound then active monitors should be what you should look for.

Whereas if you want it for listening and not production/mastering then you should spend some time by trying to audition speakers in your budget from brands like dynaudio, dali, monitor audio, psb.

sound is very subjective and each speaker sounds different so you will know your preference only after you listen to the same song on all choices so make a cd with tracks you like and are familiar with and then audition.

If your in the usa there are a number of internet direct brands i can recommend which have a great reputation and are value for money bargains.           "Whoever said the best things in life are free... obviously grew their own bud"

Thanks for feedback. Not in US , live in Dubai. most of spkr / monitor brands that I am interested in are not available for audition. Will try to listen to at least the ones available.           ********************************************

I bought the Yamaha hs50m, I listened to it and it sounds VERY transparent.
I bought about a year and a half ago, from a store i used to work in, for a very nice price (for israel, at least... )

Now i'm looking for the hs10w, the Yamaha hs subwoofer, and aparently they don't bring it anymore...
I'll try to get it from the USA or use my old connections...           www.myspace.com/johnnybgoodmusic

you do know a subwoofer can be of any different brand since they will have crossover and phase settings to fine tune it with your yamaha monitors.           "Whoever said the best things in life are free... obviously grew their own bud"

Yes and no. not every subwoofer will fit any speakers (I sell stereo products, I know).
And also, the yamaha sub is one of the best in his price range.           www.myspace.com/johnnybgoodmusic

Adam has a new speaker line: the Ax series with the successors of A5 and A7.
They'll be presented on the Prolight & Sound show this week.
Might be interesting for those looking into the A7.
