they are used in lot of studio but don t forget they are pluged to 3000$$$ amps, also you can check focal ,Klein + Hummel, adam ( i have read the adam s serie is very chiurgical ,kind of ns 10,pure mixing monitors, imo it s not very good to write tracks cause it s hard to get the vibe when everything sound like shit ) |

yes, the old ns 10 (the ones with asbest:-)
are used in so many studio's, but don't forget people combinate them with other studio monitors.
So you work on "normal" monitors, and then when you are mixing can check it on the ns10's.
So I really would not advice you to work only on NS10's, that's really hard and a pain for your head after a while. |

Hey, I am back to choosing, what do you think about the two: Mackie MR5 or Event TR6? Will mackie's 5'' be enough to at least get a glimpse of what's down below? I can't go far right now.

i don't think there will be a huge difference between the 5,25" speaker of the mackies and the 6" ones of the events.
for a clear and good bass you will have to add a sub sooner or later anyway...so i would say better go for the cheaper mackies.
imo the best option would be to save some more money and buy some 8" speakers...but this is only because i don't like to work with a sub.
if working with a sub is ok for you then i think both of the options above are really ok... |

so if i was to get a pair of dynaudio bm6 mkII's ...
which audio interface should I get in order to hook them up to my laptop?
Does the audio interface really affect the quality of the sound?
Can i get by with say a cheapo $200 audio interface? |

It does affect the sound quality. I got my m-audio fast track pro usb sound card for $200. As Kane said though, cheap stuff just forces you to be more creative

I must say you only notice the huge difference once you upgrade to better equipment. Not before

about halfway somewhere along this thread someone was talking smack about the m-audio fast track pro... So I felt dissuaded from getting it.
Instead i ordered the
Tascam US122L USB 2.0 Audio/MIDI Interface which comes with a copy of cubase le at $129
http://www.zzounds.com/item--TASUS122L
what do you guys think?
If i am making a mistake i still have until tomorrow to change the order...
thanks!

Aside from the master settings in your sequencer, an interface is essentially the only thing that affects the sound quality..the only exception is if you're using any cheap interface with a really nice (separate) dedicated DAC. Sequencer sends data to interface, interface converts it to voltage, monitors show the result as well as they can. You can have the most expensive monitors in the world, but they'll sound terrible without a good DAC (or interface with a nice integrated DAC). A more important fact to focus on is that there are significant differences in quality and application range between interfaces in the same price range. If I could only have one interface, I would rather have a Presonus Firebox than an Apogee Duet any day, just because it's really difficult to play live with a Duet.
It was probably me talking smack about the Fast Track Pro, so you should know that I could criticize almost any interface. None are perfect, and a lot of it comes down to personal requirements. The Fast Track Pro is really decent for the price, and I would rather use one in the studio than a Conectiv.
I don't know anything about your experience making music (or if you're just an audiophile), but to be honest it doesn't really matter that much which you choose if you're just starting out. I started making music without an interface at all, and didn't buy one for over a year. Since then I've gone through 7 or 8.
  You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me? |

Thanks.
I don't really know much.
All I know is that I take my music composition seriously and that later I want to dj.
As for right now, all I am really trying to do is output from my laptop to my dynaudio bm6a's (when they arrive).
How are you able to do this without an audio interface??
And looking at the fast track pro and others... all i see is trs output and the dynaudio bm6a's are xlr input
is there another step i am missing?

I don't think that'd work too well. Best to go with a sound card.
If you get something like the Fast Track Pro it doesn't mean that your speakers are going to sound like crap, they just won't be the absolute best quality they can be. In the end it's all about getting used to your setup. Some people even get by producing with headphones because they know them very well. Getting something cheaper to get yourself going isn't a bad idea (it's what I've done). There's always gonna be better equipment than you currently have and people always have a different idea on what is the best hardware anyway so it's all up to you in the end.

I think you are right, ascension...
which is why i just ordered the fast track pro a minute ago... along with trs to xlr connectors - that oughta do the job.
