Those yamaha hs80m look pretty good. I'm gonna try to get a listen to em today at a store. Would I have to buy a sub with them too? I have a powered yamaha sub that came with the speaker system I currently have, would that work?           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

As long as your sub is powered and you have a way to route it, yes. If you have the cash for it, the Presonus Central Station is a good investment to make..all of the monitor routing options you could ask for and a killer D/A converter. You shouldn't really need to use a sub with the hs80m's though..I've heard them a few times and they have more than enough low end. If you do end up using the sub with them, keep in mind that you'll need to adapt in your mixing habits, or your tracks won't have enough bass.           You believe in the users?

I just listened to those Yamahas and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get em. Producing with headphones is annoying and I've only been doing it for like a month           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

I bought a pair of the Yamaha HS80Ms 2 days ago and I am getting a hissing noise from them when no audio is being played. It is also there when audio is being played. Anyone have this happen and know how to fix it? Or will it just go away after they get some use? Thanks.

I'm connecting them through an M-Audio Fast Track Pro (XLR inputs) from my HP laptop if that helps at all.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

Monitors are "showing" whatever is connected to them. You cannot suspect the monitor unless u disconnect it from any source.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

Exactly. If the noise is there when the monitors are turned on and unplugged (from audio source) completely, return them immediately. If it isn't, it's a problem with your interface (much more likely)..no offense, but the fast track pro isn't that great (quality-wise) and I would expect it to be the problem. Notice that they don't put the signal to noise ratio in any distributor's specifications.           You believe in the users?

I've heard that all monitors have some hissing noise to them, is this not the case? Can I expect the noise to be gone if I buy a better sound card? Any suggestions on one I should get?           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

The hiss you hear is the amps that drive the drivers. you should not hear that if the monitors are any good. I turn up my HR 824s really loud and still when there is no signal, I hear no noise whatsoever.
Same with my Alesis mk2 actives.

Damn i've got a very lound noise if i turn my yamaha hs80m to maximum sensivity (only when connected to sound card) and sometimes when listening to audio you can hear clicks and that stuff, and if you drag the windows in explorer you'll hear somekind of electrical noise.. i dont know what to do with it, turning to medium sensivity makes the noise not so loud but still you can hear clicks.. Soundcard - M-audio audiophile 192 Also, when not connected to the sound card, you can hear noise but that's ok.

The cracks and pops come from CPU of your computer load, the only thing i could come up with is increasing the buffer size of the audiophile, i had the same shit with my audiophile firewire, but increasing the buffer+tuning up windows can do the trick. You might end up with some extra latency though. My workaround is recording automation with little cpu load and then exporting the audio in to the project with a higher load with increased buffer size           Monitoring devices, know where you go

Cheap op amps in the monitors if there's noise when they aren't connected to anything. More gain from the sound card and less volume and sensitivity on the monitors helps, but don't go crazy with it (i.e. don't turn the monitors down to the lowest possible volume and sound card as loud as you can get it).

Oh and don't forget about the effect that the power source has on audio gear. An uninterruptable PSU will work wonders..

Has anyone of you guys worked with any one of these babies: Samson Resolv A8 or Event Tr-6 (8) ? Have anything to say about them? so far i am more into Event, but that is due to the fact that i never heard anything about samson. This is gonna be a rather long term investment, they are in my price range of $600 a pair. And please don't even start about Dynaudio or Adam, can't afford them and not going to wait anymore to save up           Monitoring devices, know where you go

Actually, I have one little update, I am also considering Tapco S8, they just put me a bit off by their size anyway, any ideas on those? or other suggestions in under $600 range?           Monitoring devices, know where you go
