I am thinking about getting some additional monitors.
I currently have a pair of Behringer Truth B2030P (Passive)
I am thinking of upgrading to the
Behringer B2031A (Active)
or take the:
M-Audio BX8a (Active)
But what to choose? And will I gain alot by getting active monitors?
Peace

@xun:
that depends on your amp. if you have a good studio amplifier, your passive monitors will also sound better. but if you only have a hifi amp, you're better off buying active ones (in case you don't want to buy a new amplifier).
but in general, i wouldn't buy behringer.
how much money do you want to spend for your monitors?
and what amp do you have already? |

I got about 6-700$ to spend on monitors.
My amp is a HiFi Sony amp. Just standard, 5 year old.

with that amount of money i would recommend you to listen to the adam a7, the yamaha hs80m or the event tr8.
all of them are better than the behringer or the m-audio.
if you have the possibility to listen to them at a music store, do it!
always better than buying something "blind", especially studio monitors are quite a personal thing.
another possibility would be to order some monitors and send the ones you don't like back if the store has this option. |

Thanks for the advice...
I went to the store today and got myself the KRK Rokit6. The Adams were abit too expensive, compared to the difference in sound. Spent about an hour listening to different monitors...

I have a Behringer B2031A (Active) and looking for some better... this monitor is good for musicians that work with non electronic music or music without too much bass... Maybe buying 2031 + active sub could be better, but it stand-alone isnt a good stuff...

I have been working with my new KRK ROKIT 6 now for a week or so. I must say they are AWSOME... When I listen to the difference to my Behringer Truth (Passive thoug), the change is enormous... Much better sound...

That is what it supposed yo do, man! Monitors aren't made to sound good, they are made to provide flat frequency responce, uncoloured sound. The theatre there has all sorts of enhancers etc...thus sounds really good

Yes... monitors are made to play as it as. But 2031a dont do that... Like i told before, maybe with the behringer active subwoofer, made for play with 2031a, the sound start to have phatness... I dont think they are bad, but it miss a lot of bass.

I think to buy Mackie MR8, they will be my first monitors, and I have some questions
1. My room is 4 x 4m, is it to small for 8-inch bass?
2. In my country they cost about 500 E, what alternative I have for that money? |

i think the mackies are ok, but many people say that their sound is too pleasant for a monitor box.
alternatives in that price range would be the yamaha hs80m, event tr8, adam a5, emes kobalt, prodipe pro8 or the tapco s8.
depends on what you like...i would recommend you to listen to them at some kind of music store and decide what you like best.
making a good mix is possible with all of them, once you know you're monitors well. |
