what about mackie HR824? i've read the posts here and it seems like the consensus is that HRs are in the same league as BM6A, not BM5A, but most prefer Dynaudio's. the thing is, i can't find any deals on the BM6A and it seems like there's no way around paying $1600+ for a new pair. on the other hand, there are a bunch of 824s that can be picked up on ebay for 600-700. and i just saw an ad on craigslist of a guy selling his for 550 (can probably get them for 500, and no paying for shipping, and can check them out in person before buying). it's a MKI, they are about 5 years old, and other than a pinsized hole in one of the woofers (which according to him doesn't affect the sound in any way), seem to be in a good condition. i understand the dimension of the room has a lot to do with it and 824 is better in a bigger room. however, i know that i will be moving in a couple of months, and but i don't know where and don't know the dimension of the room in which i will end up.

any thoughts? if 824s are comparable to BM6As, then the $1000 price difference is just too big to ignore, even they are a bit inferior to them.

I have the Adam A7 monitors. They are realy good, crystal clear and linear. But they are a litle bit weak in the low frequency area. So if you want to buy some Adam speakers, take the P11 or P22 they are stronger in the low area. Of course there is the question about the budget. Adam is pretty expensive but it`s a good investment

@ DeadEndDance

Whait a wile with your speakers. Because it`s very important that you know what size the room has. When you buy some speakers but you donno what kind of room it is, it will be a waste of money.

yeah, i understand that. however, it's not very practical. i know that whatever place i move to will be temporary as well, since in a year or two i will be buying my own place, so i will move again. and then after 4 or 5 years, i will probably get a bigger place as i save or my needs grow. and whatever monitors i end up getting now i'm expecting to last me for a decade or more. plus, i will still have some wiggle room, as i can set up my desk in the living room (bigger room) or in the bedroom (smaller room).

after thinking about this for a while, i think i'm just going to bite the bullet and get BM6As. anybody got suggestions on a place/site to buy them in the US?

I've bought a lot of stuff from JRR shop:

http://www.jrrshop.com/dynaudio-bm6a-pair-of-nearfield-monitors-p-3049.html

They give free shipping for orders over $400. If you're a member on the UAD forums you'll get another 10% off.

How do you compare the Dynaudios BM12A to the Focal Solo 6.
They are on the same price and im torn between both, what would be the best choice, ive been reading a lot an the Focal seem to have more Wow factor than the dynes, and i like this.
Thanks for any advice.

Well it's a tough call, the Focals will be more accurate but the Dynaudios will have more low end.

If you plan on adding a sub later on to your setup then you should go the Solo's otherwise get the Dynaudios, they're not bad either.           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

Focals are extremely accurate in low/mid , mi/hi frequencies with nice response to the low end (they are really going down there) but not so tight , dynaudio are more low end dedicated but more muddy on mid range than the solo.
love my solo ,, a totally new world of mixing (without sub of course , its alitlle expensive for now )

gutter, prbebly you the only one here that got focal....so maybe you can help me a bit,im in the process to ugrade my monitors (just distroy dyn BM5a....),and im really looking on the focal's solo 6.at the moment im demo the dynaudio BM6a and adam P22 in may studio, buth of them clean and tight, but in defrent way....
i like the low end from the BM6a - clean, tight and got feeling, but the mid is a bit muddy ,on the P22 i like the the mid\high coz its sooo clear and sharp like a knife.
maybe you had the chance to A\B them with the focal,or at list you had the chance to hear them,so you can tell me if the focal got the parts that i like on the BM6a and P22 (i cant demo the focal or even to go to a shop to listen to them....only to order form the net....)

tnx for the help,
Divine Source.

any one have any experience with Event range of monitors??

the tr8 looks tastey!!
http://www.event1.com/products/tr8.html

would it be correct to go for ones with the broadest frequency range? cos that's how i'm gonna shortlist!
i'm not gonna be adding sub monitors for a while!!

appreciate the feedback!!

i had only the chance to check the Dynas BM5
, unfortunately i didnt check the ADAM , but from the specifications the Focals are more close to the ADAM , due to the frequency response , and these are sharp like a razor , the berylium tweeters are AWESOME , i know all those low frequencies can be more clean at the Dynas , but u lose the crystal sound , which i love it too
I personally enjoy the low frequencies from Solo6 , i can listen what im EQing till 45Hz and im happy with that , anyway this will be from now on my mixing image and need a lot of time and work to learn their sound , same as all monitors , isnt it like that ?
Im not an expert , but since i was between the BM5 and Solo and test them , i went to the Solo .. taste
And my previous monitors where Tascam VLx5, budget monitor, but still very very nice for their money..
.. headache choices
