Do you think its a good buy?

IMO, at that budget you would be better off getting Focal Twin6 BE's as they're three way & a much better choice than the ADAMS.

if its the mk2 from alesis you're talking about....dont love them, but they can make good psy mixes.

BUT (again and most important), they really suck for all other non-electronic styles (rock/metal/fusion-jazz were my tryouts on them). too much coloration. the room wasnt helping either, so...a kind of compromised appreciation.

Could you tell me your opinion comparing Alesis mk2 with Yamaha HS80/NS10 ?

I own HS80 comparing baseline with Alesis at my friends home, i was disapointed - Alesis baseline was much clearly.
I think, maybe there is a problem with my room...

Hey there!

Choosing between:

Alesis Prolinear 820 DSP (Much bang for bux, big woofer)

Dynaudio BM5A Powered Studio Monitor (why is the passive version more expensive?)

Dynaudio BM6A MK II Active (Is the price difference between this and BM5a worth the extra woofer and amp size?)

Adam A7

Wich should I go for??
I want an allround, clean monitor for producing all kinds of music, but mainly electronic.

thx in advance           http://www.myspace.com/fragletrollet

I used to have Dynaudio BM6A MKI, which are supposed to be better than the new one's. I also used the BM5A but they were a little 'hi-fi' & lack a little in the bottom end.

I've never heard the ADAM A7's but they always get stellar reviews, though they also lack in the bottom end.

So my vote will go to the BM6AMKII's as they represent the best overall characteristics that you want in a good monitor.           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

Do you guys use digital monitors (S/PDIF interface) or prefer analog (XLR and alike)?

Is it better to invest in digital monitors and connect them, for instance, to an onboard sound via S/PDIF interface or it's better to buy a decent soundcard and use it with analog monitors?

I'm thinking of buying a digital monitors, but I'm not sure how their D/A converters compare to a decent soundcard ones.

digital monitors (digital inputs means that the signal stays in the digital domain and is just converted before it gets to the output) is primary used for signals in the 92khz and higher domain and most for film and surround applications.
that doesnt mean u cant use them in the mix of ur music.. but i think its prefferable to use the traditional monitors with analog inputs the sound is great in both ways and the cost is less.           http://www.landmark-recordings.com/

I was considering Tannoy Reveal 6D monitors. They have both XLR/jack and S/PDIF connectors. S/PDIF sampling rate is in 44.1 - 96kHz range. And the price is affordable (for me, that is) - about 700e for a pair.

Maybe someone has experience with these or can recommend something else in that price range (up to 1000e max)?

surely your room dude, i worked on both for many months and hs80 is much more revealing. maybe they got "less" clear bass than the alesis but in overall alesis fails for me. like i said, too much coloration. and maybe even that bass is colored.

hs80 is a big speaker, fitting it properly into your space is the key for getting a good sound. not to mention you gotta be right on the sweet spot of the triangle.

and not to forget: i was using it on the vertical position for some jazz-style mixing and that fails me on psy, so i lay them down horizontally when doing psy.

regards!

hs80 is for sure better than alesis mk2, the alesis seem too exagerated on the bass and personally i don't like them.

diogo c i own a pair of hs80, you're saying i should lay them on there sides while makin psy?
