psylevation i think you need to listen to all the monitors side by side, it s the way to make the best choice .the problem in this price range, it s hard to find monitors good in all the audible spectrum, they all have some good and bad things so it s really a matter of taste . |

I just got the yamaha hs 80m's and the matching hs 10w sub and they sound amazing got it all for under 1000.. they have a very flat Freq Response.. i wouldnt reccomend the 80m's without the matching sub... while they do have a tight end bass u have to blast your ears out when u actually mix if u dont have the matching sub (i say blast cuz the mids and highs are so clear and seperated).. the sub clears all that up and really u should have a sub in my opinion... these speakers for the price compete pretty well with speakers that cost 3 or 4 times the price... super clean... i've been reading every forum and gone every place.. these are absolutely the best quality for the price u can get.. go listen to them with a cd you know.. they sound great and i have a decent sized room and they are turned up not even half way the sub not even a quarter way.. anyways.. thats my 2 cents |

i also thought about buying the fame 1080, but i didnt find any review beside one, and it sounded like it was written by the manufacturer himself.
the price was something about 300 euros if i remember right, it's quite hard to decide what monitor to buy in this price range.
so, i cant say something bad about them really, but in the end i got the tapco s8 (380 euros), and i have to say im quite happy with this decision.
if you're not sure, order 3 or 4 different monitors and let your ear decide...most music stores take them back within 30 days...
so, after searching myself quite a time for the right monitor below 400 euros, i can only give you one advice:
you have to work with them and no one else, so listen to them and then decide, don't trust any reviews... |

The problem with monitors is that they vary to your taste, but in my opinion donīt get monithos with to much highs or you will destroy your ears.
Also donīt get equalized monitors, many of the monitors have low frequency enhanced and other artifacts to seem more enjoyable to the listener (hi fi speakers). The monitor needs to tell you the true no matter how hard will be to you to know that something is sounding shitty.
To test a monitor you need some sources of good and bad sound, for example a digital raging cold tone, if it sounds digital cold and bad its ok, but many monitors will make some kind of buzz and color the sound so you think is all ok, but thatīs not true, donīt get this kind of monitor if you want to sculpt your sound to he max.
Some monitors i liked.
Samson Rubicon ( low price )
Dynaudio ( mid price )
Adam ( high price )

agree with this - except for the subwoofer part. if have a nice treated room, the subs can be awesome. but if u have a basic bedroom studio like i do, the hs80m standalone bass response should be FINE for any kind of mix.
in a untreated space, the sub will really fuck you up due to the excessive amount of stationary bass freqs you'll be getting with them. even without the sub the hs80m big power will make u sometimes use the room control atenuation (-4db 500Hz low-shelf).
if we consider their smaller brother, the hs50m, the sub is absolutelly necessary due to freq response/speaker size of the 50m's.
my advice: hs80m can handle very well without the sub.
cheers,
keep it up. |
