From what i read on the RME forums, the AIO has slightly better D/A & A/D converters compared to the HDSP 9632.
Then it's comparatively future proof as well since it's PCI-e. However i remember reading on the forum that the first batch also had some problems, related to headphone hiss & the cards picking up noise if i remember correctly.

Hi mates,
I m almost buying this soundcard:
http://www.amazon.com/Echo-AudioFire2-FireWire-Audio-Interface/dp/B001AHZOJE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1258473091&sr=8-1
echo audiofire 2
just want some toughts before i buy it?
1. about the quality
2. if it woks good with xp, i ve read a review that the guy never made it to work with windows
Also my main purpose with the card is to use with my production (i use two alesis active monitors, and one akai midi keyboard) and also will use to record dj sets into my laptop.
peace!!

Hi everybody !
I just bought a portable computer (PC, toshiba), and i ask myself if i need an USB external soundcard to produce music on it.
In fact, i don't know at all how do soundcards and external soundcards works.
I bought a PCI soundcard for my home computer because i heard that it was necessary to produce, but in fact i don't know exactly what it does compared to a basic soundcard.
Could you explain me a bit about soundcards and say me if i need an USB soundcard on my portable computer, and maybe give me some ideas of soundcards to buy (less than 200 euros ^^). ?
I would like so much to understant all that.
Thank you ! |

By "basic soundcard" i assume you're talking about onboard sound on your motherboard. the main difference between onboard sound and pci or external soundcards is the quality, onboard sound is usually pretty crap, just like onboard video. i think the onboard sound on a laptop would be even worse..
there's some really good quality pci cards but most people go for external cards just for ease of use/more inputs outputs for recording/the top quality ones all tend to be external.
since you're using a laptop you'll have to go external anyway, does your laptop have firewire? i would suggest the echo audiofire 4, it's 200 euros I believe, pretty much the best card in it's price range. |

Thank you for your answer ! So a better soundcard provides a better sound in output. But, is there a différence between sounds produced with the same cubase project and different soundcards ? I would like to understand this point.
I don't have firewire, could you advise me a good USB soundcard around 100 euros (Yes finally i changed my budget) ?
